First I know it’s not going to be a great course but, I’m in need of a round ASAP. I moved to Youngsville 3 weeks ago and I haven’t played golf here yet. I’m a 4.5-5 handicap. Is the course in at least decent shape for a round? Is it easy to get on around 2:00-4:30 on a Thursday and play a quick 18? I haven’t met anyone here yet, and we (family) are still deciding about joining Le Triomphe but in the meantime I just need to play a round this afternoon. But don’t want to go out and be held up on every hole, wouldn’t mind being paired up if it had to happen as well.

Is Les Vieux a better option for the above? The options for golf around here aren’t great.

Thanks

The course is currently in good shape and playing an afternoon round you should have no problem getting on. It is usually not crowded that time of the day.Have fun!

I have not. Public/Private? Decent shape? Not busy?

I just need to play. I was a member of a club for years before moving. Never anyone playing during afternoon 12-3:30/4, I worked in sales so could get out on week days. Played 2-3 times a week.

Farm and wetlands would be in better shape than either Abbeville Or Vieux Chene

Thanks for the information. I guess I’m looking for something that I know I can go out around 2:30-3 today and grab a cart and play without sitting on every hole waiting. Again don’t mind being partnered up but don’t want a 5 hour round. Conditions aren’t a major factor but I don’t want to play off dirt greens and fairways either.

Le Triomphe is private. I’ve been offered a free round there as I was interested in membership. So I may go out soon.

You will be able to get on at Southern Oaks today. If living in Youngsville, LT is where you would want to join. Public golf not great in the area.

Since you're in Youngsville you can also check out Cane Row. It's in solid shape right now and they have a great weekday twilight deal, $28 with a cart. Looking at their online booking the 3:00 tee time is open.

I booked a 1:30 at Southern Oaks today. It’s probably not the greatest option on the world but was trying to get on somewhere not crowded and can get done quickly. Play two balls if I felt like it. Etc.

Poppy - not sure how to “connect” not posting phone number here but my email is

Appreciate all the info. Just trying to get settled down in the area and then join a club. Came from a club where the membership was active. Men’s events once a month, points events, social stuff with bands and such for the family. I made life long friendships there and go back every couple months just to play.

Just played southern oaks, fairways and greens are good, rough is a little thick, but overall course is in good shape. Old course so greens are small.

Obviously too late to help you with a round this afternoon, but if you live in Youngsville with family, joining Le Triomphe is a slam dunk. I was a member there for 30 years, and I’ve played there recently. (Not subtle brag: My name is on three of the five hole-in-one plaques). Course in great shape, practice facilities excellent, members are happy with new management group. They’re building a new pool. Probably wouldn’t take you long to find a group to play with.

Thank you for the information. It’s probably going to be our best option. I think fees went up 8/1, we just weren’t ready to pull the trigger just yet as we didn’t get settled in until 7/20 and really aren’t settled. Still looking for a house in the Youngsville (Sugar Mill Pond) area. I’ll probably go by there soon and play a round and test it. I know they just broke ground on the new pool. I’m sure after my visit I’ll know who you are. Ha.

Small greens you say!!

Haha. I played Southern Oaks today. It’s about 15 miles from my house. It’s not a “terrible” course. It’s just short, which I’m definitely not used to. It wasn’t the slowest round. I teed off at 1:30pm. I played two balls so that I would not run up on anyone in front of me, although I ended up playing through a two-some on hole 7. I shot 75/73 on the two balls. I thought I played decent considering I was playing the course and greens blind. It’s not my type of course, but would be fun with some buddies or occasional scramble type event. The guy that does the instagram videos and social media stuff does seem to be enthusiastic and I’m sure the local membership enjoy it a lot. If it wasn’t a 25 plus minute drive for me, I may even join because the price is great.

I’m going to try out LT and some of the other courses in the area in the coming weeks. Hopefully find a home close to the house soon.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I appreciate it.

I mean I figured that. At least he’s trying to make the place fun and inviting for members. He’s got a target audience and he’s reaching it. He was shooting a video while I was there today.

It’s private normally great shape. You can definitely play in the afternoons without huge pace of play issues. Crowded on weekends.

Sugar mill pond is great neighborhood been here almost 7 years
