Simulation golf just showed how bad I really am

I haven't it balls in 8 months, too busy with life and threw my back out.
Buddy had a simulator bay booked and I said why not. No warm up, no practice as we are on the clock. Man, I suck
Now I am about to turn 60 so my golf glory days are way behind me. Would you even bother at my age to try and fix it or just fade away into the golf cart and drink beer??
Love the game, love my playing partners.... sometimes. I have accepted that I am shitty at golf.
Place was really cool. Bogey Master in Hutto Tx.

I’m 42 with a fricked up back. I’ve made insane swing changes and switched to graphite irons shafts. I did this because I love the competition and camaraderie.
There’s no guarantee I’ll be able to play at 60. If you can, find a way: Get graphite, practice, stay active and stay out there!

I get you brother. I still love the game but man, it is humbling looking at you carry distance and not being able to hit the ball in the center of the clubface.
I have the hooks and toe hits really, really..... Really bad and is a another reason I kind of gave up the game.

Get a little closer to the ball and you will start hitting it better

When you play more, you can score better in spite of swing flaws.
It is worth a lesson or two to correct serious swing issues, but you don’t have to swing like Rory or Scottie to have some good holes.
Getting rid of the big miss is the goal.
1. Get in play off the tee.
2. Get it on or around the green on approach shots less than 150 yards.
3. Get on the green when chipping or pitching.
4. Try to have no more than 2 putts.
Most people can break 90 from a proper tee doing these 4 things.
For young golfers trying to reach their full potential, ball striking is king.
For older golfers, short game can be a force multiplier.

Of course you were bad. Everyone sucks after laying off for eight months and back injuries.
You may not get back to your prime but you can certainly get better and still have a good time. I definitely wouldn't give it up, I'm going to play as long as my body lets me (40 and 2 back surgeries in).
You also can move up tees and probably enjoy rounds a lot more too.

I have buddies that are WAY better than me, but I still enjoy playing...and I suck. Just go have fun, keep up with their pace of play (so maybe you have to pick a ball up, or just don't spend time looking), and have a good time with your friends.
No need to just slink off and drink alone while they're playing.

Some retired pro wrote a book about golfing for guys who want to keep playing. Called “getting to square” or something like that. It’s how to shorten up, make solid contact, and have fun.
