I’m playing carnoustie June 30. Door to door my Scotland trip will be 5 days. Going for a wedding but first baby being born the month before. Otherwise I’d take 2 weeks

FWIW I heard trumps course in Aberdeen is top 4 in Scotland

How was Carnoustie? Headed to Scotland in four weeks. Playing St Andrew's old, Carnoustie, Gleneagles, Royal Aberdeen, Panmure and Turnberry. I can't freakin wait!

I played Gullane 1 and 2, the Renaissance, and North Berwick this year. The courses of East Lothian are unbelievable and I loved it. I also took a look around the clubhouse of Muirfield and the history was a must do.

So what does a 10-12 day trip cost to Scotland or Ireland? Would love to go one day before I die.

Played Old Course (76), Kinsgbarns (83), and North Berwick (94) in 2019.
Kingsbarns was the most enjoyable. North Berwick beat me up ... as indicated by the 94. Couldn’t keep it out of the fescue. Old Course is all about history. The golf is okay. As posted, it’s all about 1, 16, 17, and 18. The rest of the course is pretty forgettable.

Food is certainly not as bad as portrayed. The Fish and Chips (fries) are decent. The Cranachan is MUCH better than figgy pudding. The shepherd’s pie in Scotland is served in a pastry shell and we enjoyed it. Whisky is everywhere! Instead of beer flights, they do whisky flight and also whisky pairings with dessert (HIGHLY RECOMMEND).

I agree that the food isn’t that bad. Just stay away from haggis.

Signature Golf

Had excellent trips with this company in the past.

And a group of friends and I are using them to go to Scotland next August ('26) for the East and West Coast of Scotland Tour.

I'm going with a group of 14. We are renting a castle for the week that sleeps 24. It's near Carnoustie and is gonna run us each about $1000. We also have a 20 passenger bus and driver to take us to our courses that will run about $600 per man. You would be surprised at the course you can get on just by emailing them. I was able to get 14 of us on Turnberry, Royal Aberdeen, Panmure, and Muirfield. All 14 of us! We had another guy get us on at Carnoustie and Glen Eagles. All in, we are about $4500 plus meals and airfare. Flight from Atlanta to Edinburgh was $850 on Delta, and upgraded to a Delta One with a global upgrade certificate.

Renaissance

How did Renaissance compare to the older and more traditional links courses, especially Gullane 1 and North Berwick?

Once again this year at the Scottish Open there were several players that hinted while Renaissance Club was a fine course, there were other courses in the area probably better suited to host a tournament in Scotland. They also frequently mentioned Muirfield in conversations and interviews.

Muirfield is literally right next to it, and considered by many to be one of the best courses in the world.

I don’t know if they are taking shots at Renaissance, or the R&A for removing Muirfield from The Open rota, or both.
