School me on driver shafts

I hit the ball really high. My drives are almost always all carry. I would like a more penetrating ball flight, and I’ve been told a new shaft may help
I’m currently hitting a Cobra F7 with stock stuff shaft. My swing speed is typically 105-110 mph. What specifically should i be looking for in a new shaft?

If you want it done right, you have to get fitted for a hand crafted shaft. MyGolfSpy has done articles on the BS manufacturers do to trick people into thinking they are getting something specific for their swing speed/flight. Only way to know is to see someone who has enough shafts to test and knows what he’s doing.

I hit a high flight ball. I have been hitting an aldila xstiff shaft for two drivers now. (10yrs). I have a 100 to 105 mph driver swing speed.
I went to Golf Connection in Lafayette and they were knowledgeable and very helpful in my driver fitting.
I'm an average golfer that hits it long. I wasn't spending $800 on a driver so this is the shaft I like, keeps my ball flight mid to low, long and straight.
I don't have a PGA game so I don't need a PGA shaft.

Tell me ball speed, launch angle, and backspin and I'll tell you what shaft to get.

Tee it lower and send me $150 for the lesson.

Hitting the ball low on the face ain’t exactly what I’m going for

You can find an older model matrix black tie on eBay pretty cheap. You probably need an x flex too.

Those numbers are pretty good, but you are definitely losing some distance. I bet you have a steep angle of attack. You probably need to shallow it a bit and try to hit up on the ball with the driver.
What shaft were you using to get those numbers?

Fujikura Speeder Pro 64 x
The driver is the issue - we have the irons figured out - Nippon Modus130
I did switch from PV1X to PV1 - that did not help - now playing TPX5 and that is much better with driver
Other factor - I am getting older and my arthritis in my hands can be a MF bitch at times but my rotation and plane are still solid for now...so my teaching Pro wants to focus on target rather the distance cause this arthritis will only get worse in my hips and shoulders. The heavier weight helps me feel the club during the swing.
He did tip my 3 wood an inch with a regular Fujikura shaft and it nice but I can lose it left if I get a shade fast

quote:Isn't that head adjustable? If not, get a driver with lower loft and forget about trying to do this with a shaft change. Heck, a lot of people would love to have really high driver trajectory with almost all carry.

Maybe Tour AD BB or HZRDUS Black.

OP, I play Matrix shafts and love them. They do play a little stiff to flex, but the Black Tie would be a good option for you as it is their Low/Low option. Red tie is their mid/mid, and white tie is high launch/low spin (this is what I use as a low ball hitter).
Black tie will feel stout compared to the other two, so maybe try a stiff if that's what you've got now. Can always tip it a bit to get stiffer flex.

Great low launch shaft. I've been hitting this shaft for years. Has really helped with my ball flight.
I used to have a 8 degree driver with stock shaft that I would sky. With the black tie, I just readjusted to 11 degrees with my Epic and hitting it on a line.

If you adjust down in loft it can open up the face, which may create new issues.
I think a shaft change could help, a Project X yellow or black are solid low launch shafts. So is the Diamana WB D+ is another option, both could be had for a decent price on Ebay.

Yeah, I've mostly played TM and Ping both seem to change quite a bit. I haven't had a Cobra driver for a while.

Maybe, but they make the heads that way just for this.

What I said was accurate, you need to hit it lower on the face for more penetrating ball flight. It doesn't matter what shaft you go to right now, it's a ball placement issue on the club face that needs to be solved. This is coming from a plus handicaper. Take some spray deodorant and spray the club face and see where you are hitting it currently. Then work on lowering that contact point.

In general look for a shaft that is tip stiff, that is stiffer at the bottom end
