Sasaki Design for City-Brooks Park is anti-golf

Sasaki has presented two plans for City-Brooks Park, neither of which retains the original footprint of the golf course. They MUST present a plan showing the golf course as it is now. Trimming it here and there is not going to work and is dirty pool.

If they close it it would cripple Baton Rouge golf.
The city is running out of holes.

There has been a massive uptick in students playing CP in the last week. We went to an event there last night and I must’ve seen 20-30 young people playing in the hour we were there.

I became a member at Pelican Point recently due to what I’m expecting to be the eventual closure of City Park. I’ve been playing there a lot but my problem was my son and I will often play after school and work, but it would take us 40 minutes to get there.
I enjoy Pelican point but City Park is a special course and their plans to close the course pissed me off. I still go back every once in a while, but if they indeed do close it, I’ll never spend another dime at any BREC facility ever again. frick Baton Rouge, they genuinely frick up every good thing.

And to think those who would re-purpose the golf course in its entirety, or just parts, truly believe EBR parish residents will drive from Baker, Zachary, Central or St. George to a proposed "central park" -- in the congested traffic that is now common in Baton Rouge -- is ridiculous.
If I lived in one those communities, and my mayor who sits on the BREC commission, voted to drastically alter City Park -- I'd have to vote him out -- and recruit my friends/neighbors to do the same.
I have to believe those residents want BREC to spend tax millage dollars on parks closer to them -- instead of $$$ millions on a downtown park.
Leave CP golf course intact.

The problem is the people making these decisions genuinely feel like people like me, and my comment above where I said, " frick Baton Rouge, they genuinely frick up every good thing." is some sort of retarded code for "I'm an old white man and want things back like they used to be when I was a kid", so they overcompensate to try to change things. Leave the damn course alone.

Once it's gone, it's gone forever.

I expect the plan to take the land from #5 and turn one of the other holes into two par 3s. I don’t think there is much we can do.
They are bound and determined to frick with this place. Prepare for more concrete.
It’s better than the alternatives that some of these geniuses have thrown out there.

their plan is to GREATLY reduce the footprint of the CPGC and turn it into a pitch and putt...

No disagreement there.
Side note, I wholeheartedly agree that the course needs to be improved on the current footprint it sits on and not trimmed and appreciate the efforts, passion, and the yard signs ... but just from an observer's 1000 foot point of view, Friends of City Park isn't doing itself any favors with some of the AI content, inaccuracies, satirical political cartoons, and personal attacks on the BREC commissioners and Sasaki reps being posted on the Facebook page and elsewhere. BREC, BRAF, and Sasaki are misguided at best and wholly corrupt at worst and are problematic on their own, but there's plenty of legitimate ammo and reasons to keep the course as is/improve it. Some decision makers in town I've spoken with have a hard time taking the Friends of City Park message seriously because of the hyperbole.
Not sure if you run the page or not and apologies if you don't, but I'm going to assume you're at least within a degree of separation. Hope this is taken as constructive

I play a Tom Bendelow designed course where I live. The man was truly a genius and an artist. You have to maintain the integrity of his original design.

I can't even follow the progression without forcing the golfers to double back at some point.
You also don't gain that much park space by doing this.

Can you be more specific about what you call inaccuracies?

If you're asking for specifics, a few that come to mind off the top of the head are
• spreading the word that they want to put high rises in place of the course when there's been no mention of that anywhere in the plans or otherwise - example
• other over-embellishments of the plans in general as if it's going to be some concrete jungle, for example - link
• things like this, where the org applauds and piggybacks on Rep. McMakin's comments, but then can't get his gender right and depicts him as an elderly woman in the post about it. Just comes off as lazy, and probably emasculating too.
Imo, all the publicly-posted aggressive rhetoric towards the commissioners and lazy and exaggerated AI content is bordering dangerously close to being viewed as an outrage organization by people in this town who can actually help you... as opposed to the trusted resource and set of experts on the park as a whole which I believe Friends of City Park is and should be.
Again, appreciate the massive efforts and hope this is taken as constructive. Just my 2¢ (and a few others)

Look closely at this drawing, Some of the concepts being floated aren’t even real golf courses. When you’re down to seven holes, it’s not a plan, it’s a signal that the process has drifted so far from reality that a reset is the only responsible step.
BREC keeps saying they’re committed to golf. Then a concept pops up that deletes two holes and shrinks the rest. If this is what’s floating around, no wonder people don’t trust the process.
