Fairways have always had irrigation. However the system wasn’t working properly over the last couple of years. The pumps and controls have all been replaced or rebuilt in preparation for the renovation. New greens need constant watering.

That’s good to hear.

I thought I remembered it having it back in the day. It’s been a while.

Copper mill is an outstanding layout and win golf digest best courses under $50 in America when it first opened. No driving range and it hasn’t been In good shape since
Nam has really hurt it. The golf in the greater Baton Rouge area is quite possibly the worst per capita in the entire United States.
With the loss of the bluffs, Sherwood Forrest, the absolute disregard for LSUs course golf is dying in an already extremely mediocre market.

Loved this course. I was probably 13 when they closed it, and i was pissed about it. Now, as an adult, I am ok with having a hospital and a school, but god damn we couldnt have kept the front nine and driving range? We just had to build more shitty houses huh?

The problem with Greater BR golf, was there was just too much for the demographics. It was uninvestable. No one would/could ever make a course nice because the green fees and number of rounds per course was too low.

It was a race to the bottom. Now with the courses closed you see somewhere like CM actually investing into the course.

Anyone played Santa Maria lately?
I usually try to play it a few times a year. Last year, we could just never get a decent tee time out there. would like to get out there soon.

This to me is unconscionable. It was a much better course (especially for its time) when the front 9 was on the other side of Nicholson.

I would love to see LSU do something similar to Miss State and have the Agronomy Department offer a Turf Management major with an emphasis on golf course design/management and utilize the LSU course has a training ground.

If done right, I wouldn't have a problem with cutting back to a nine hole course and a 3-6 hole par 3 course and training/practice facility. It would be unique to the area, and a better draw for students.
