Anyone hit these, play them, or know anything about them? I've been away from the scene for a few years now and just don't do my due diligence anymore. What is up with these, they seem to have a good following on tour.

I haven't hit them or even seen them in person. I had considered maybe getting one of their game improvement clubs in a 2 or 3 Iron loft as a hybrid/long iron replacement. I really hate hybrids.

There will always be idiots who think they can buy a better game.

I can't see how they'd be worth it. You could fly/drive to the fitting center of your choice (Titleist/TM/Callaway, etc), and have everything possibly done fitting wise that's available for a set of those irons for about half the cost. They can't be that good.

That wasn't my point.

There are people who think if they keep buying the latest equipment they're going to improve, when in reality they stay the same. PXG is just smart enough to market their product to those people who will dish out the cash.

There is very little different from equipment made 10 years ago to today's line.

Come on, dude. The Taylormade Burner is a 10 year old driver. The new drivers are way longer than that thing. As far as PXG goes, yes they are better, a lot better really. But that doesn't mean they are worth it. I haven't hit them personally because I'm a lefty, but I know a few people that have them and others that have hit them. A few of those were/are college and professional golfers. They all said the irons are way better than anything else out there, but the driver and metals aren't that great. They also said that none of them are probably what they cost unless you have serious throw away money, and I agree.

they all feel like butter when you hit it in the center, even though I've thought about the irons since they are

I used to think like you....until I tried the PXG's. I have the irons and the driver. The Driver is good but nothing different than other options out there. But the irons are legit. I have the "t" model and they are much more forgiving than my old AP2's. The lofts are about 2.5 degrees stronger, but they go at least a club and a half further than my AP2's.

They are expensive, but how often are you buying clubs? I had my old irons for 9 years. At least that's how I justify it.....

Quite a few PGA pros have forsaken endorsement contracts with big manufacturers like Callaway and switched
Switching equipment is not something tour pros do on a lark

The higher cost is the result of having no cost or time constraints on materials or manufacturing processes.

Are they worth the money?

For the avid player or those with more than 1 comma in their bank balance they probably are

For the rest of us...doubtful

Cause the lofts are stronger, this is the oldest club making trick in the book. Manufacturers are saying the new clubs go further, because the new 6 iron they make is the same loft as the old 5 iron. Good luck hitting a 3 Iron and gapping your wedges when lofts keep getting stronger.

you are correct that the Stronger loft does equate to more distance. Which is why I stated that they were 2.5 degrees stronger --- but they go a club and a half longer. If it was all based on loft, they would go "roughly" a half club longer....not a club and a half.

I would say the extra half club is due to the fact that PXG are custom fit which makes it easier to hit the center of the face more consistently.

A buddy of mine owns a set and I'll hit them from time to time. They are the ultimate customization iron on the market. You can move the weighting around to get the best numbers for you for each iron respectively. That being said, the guy who is currently in charge of club design came from Ping. I had my buddy hit a set of my Ping i20's and to me, the feel is almost identical.
