In the next week or so I’m going to be purchasing a new set of irons. I have never been fitted for irons so looking for advice on where to go. Is Edwin Watts the best place to get fitted and purchase irons in Baton Rouge?

Get fitted on a driving range and not just in a simulator.... In my opinion, seeing the ball flight is just as an important part of the fitting process as loft and lie angles.

Edwin Watts stores are very limited. I’ve never felt like they were confident in wha they were saying. You tend to have individual biased reps pushing what they have in the bag. It’s great for somethings, but if youre looking for a fitting, look elsewhere.

Ive never had a good experience at Watts. They are over priced and push products instead of actually fitting you. If that’s your only option, go let them fit you and purchase on eBay.

Don’t just get fitted for an iron head. Make sure you get fitted for the correct shaft as well.

Drive to golfballs.com in Lafayette.... Ask for Gene or Andy and let them fit you. They are very knowledgeable and patient. You have numerous iron options. You won’t be pigeonholed into 1 or 2 brands.

If you have to get fitted this week and it has to be in BR, go to Golftec. It’s not ideal but it’s better than Edwin Watts.

If you’re more flexible, wait until the weather improves and you can hit a bunch of products outside. Demo Days start in March. Greystone has one March 2nd at 11AM. Bridgestone, Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist, Srixon/Cleveland, Ping, XXIO.

I was in Edwin Watts one day and watched as their sales people did a driver “fitting”. They put a guy who clearly had no idea in a Taylormade SLDR by convincing him those big slices he was hitting on the simulator would be worked out once he hit it some more.

I walked out the store and have refused to buy anything there since.

Third on Golfballs.com

Gene or Andy put me into a set of Mizunos a few years back. They were a trade in set that looked like they hadn’t been hit except for the 7 and the PW. Took their time and got me bent correctly and into the right shafts.

I brought my old set of pings and a grab bag of clubs from my garage and they gave me a fair trade value on them.

I think I ended up only coming out of pocket a couple Hundo. Still play those zuno’s Today.

Golftec not even close! Most knowledgable staff! One of the coaches Rob Murphy was the mizzuno rep. They have 3 quality fitters and don't carry stock everything is custom ordered.

It’s inside. The monitors need updating. They don’t have enough shaft options. It’s one of the more expensive options.

I'd say shaft is way more important than head at this stage of tech. The mygolfspy shaft study opened my eyes a good bit.

Let's not get carried away. The variations in an iron are huge compared to a driver. From a Mizuno MP4 to a GMax to the lofts and lies of whatever you choose. The shaft length, stiffness, and kickpoint are all important, too. But the differences and results would not be as drastic as a blade vs a shovel.

It’s 125 for a fitting and they have over 20 shaft options for each flex. One of the guys Rob Murphy was the Mizuno rep. They custom order everything. If you are going to spend $500 on a driver what’s 125 to make sure it fits you?

Which is what I would expect from a place that has more than Callaway and Mizuno.

No Srixon. No Titleist. Only TM woods.

No.

I'm aware. He's a great guy.

That's not a special feature. Any pro shop or golf store can do this.

Strawman much? You think this is what I'm arguing against?
