How do y'all structure your putting warmup? I have a pretty regular progression on the range before I play, but my putting practice is totally random, and I'd like to be more structured. Any suggestions?

I go to the putting green before I check-in. Roll 3-4 minutes of long putts. Starts my tempo the right way. Check-in, warm up on the range, then full routine on 10-12 putts inside 5 feet before I tee off.

Most people run to hit 5-6 putts and do it from 10-15 feet. Just wrong.

I should clarify. I don't have a regular course, just play different publics in the area. So the purpose of my putting warmup is typically to get some feel for the greens that day, not to practice putting.

I don't practice my swing on the range before playing, either. I just warm up and try to get an idea how soft it is.

Thanks. What do you consider long putts for those sessions? For those 5-footers, do you move around at all (uphill, downhill, left- or right-breaking)? Or do you just work from the same spot?

One handed 3 footers (straight putts), using drill DJ uses. 20 putts or so
Then put tee in ground and lag putt to the tee from 30’ or so to get feel for stroke and not worry about making or not
Finish with some 8-10 footers

24-36 feet. Typical GIR distances. I’ve always paced off my putts on the course and pace off a couple distances on putting green.

Just straight putts. Just getting stroke straight-back and straight-through and seeing the ball go in.

I start off with long putts. 20+ feet and just try and get the speed down. Once that happens i move to 3-5 footers. The point of this to me is seeing the ball continually go in the hole. This is a mental thing people can’t grasp. Putting is all about confidence. See the ball go in the hole continually builds that more than anything.

How long do you spend on long putts? Any structure to it, or do you just putt toward random holes without any consideration of break or hill?

Just straight 3-5 footers? How long do you spend on short putts?

I try to make 3 straight 4 footers from different lines.

Then I roll some 20 to 40 foot putts, and try to 2 putt when I miss.

7-8 footers. About 15 times to get pace.
25-30s ft until tee time then 1 set of 4 ftrs and really just looking to make sure the putts start on the line I want. The practice putting green pre round isn’t about making putts but making sure the ball starts on your intended line.

I’ll hit as many 20+ footers as needed to get the speed down. I pay not attention to the break. Although it’s nice when one of them goes in I’m just focusing on speed. Now I’ll adjust my line after the first putt because i want to focus on finding a spot i want to putt to and then it’s all speed from there.

3-5 footers I’ll spend about 5-10 minutes. I try and take my time on the practice greens so i move slowly so take that time for what it’s worth. I want to see that ball go in the hole atleast 15 times.

You may have to Google it -Dustin Johnson putting drill. But, he puts left hand on right bicep and keeps it there while putting. Pulls right arm in and helps release putter.
When he is actually playing, you will see him grab his right bicep but putts left hand on putter and putts with both on grip. Getting himself set and in position to putt

there's no right or wrong way.

I had 26 putts with a 3 jack 3 weeks ago and hit 2 putts from 20 feet on putting green

To test green speed, find a long flat spot. set up and roll several putts using "a normal" stroke. Pace off the distance to get an idea of stroke length and green speed. It usually works out to 8-9 paces for me, on an average course. Saw this in GOLF Magazine.

Instead of warming up with the putter, I spend the extra 5 minutes on the range in attempt to hit the ball closer to the hole. My best rounds typically come when I’m hitting the ball stiff.

Practice breaking putts only. Good putting is all speed control and you don't get that feel on straight putts.

I go to the putting green only if I have time. If I can I put 2-3 and try to get them to stop at the exact same spot so I can get a feel for how the greens are playing. Problem is that not all the greens on the course play like the practice green but on nicer courses, it’s usually similar. But most of the time I don’t do this and when I putt on the first hole I’m always pissed because it’s not what I expected lol.
