Playing so bad

GHIN put a message on my update that said “a soft cap has been applied.”
I’m trying my best every time.
Got down to 7.5 in July, now 10.6 index.
Just struggling with wet conditions, lost confidence in short game because I can’t use the bounce in mud. Drives land and plug. Then my putting is just putrid right now. I missed a 2 foot birdie yesterday, shaking while I stroked it.
I’m going to change putter today just to look at something different, but this month has been very difficult for me. I don’t want to quit, but it’s tough to keep positive in light of such bad results.
I never play well in wet conditions. I guess I need to learn to compensate for the moisture.
Any tips on better contact when hitting out of very wet turf?

2020 has increased my ghin by 4 #softcapapplied
ETA: as far as tips with the short game (I should be the last guy offering them) make sure you keep your weight on the left

When it’s wet I chip w/ a PW or 8i.

I do this ok, but still pull mud now and then or thin it to avoid the muck.
I put it back in the stance and try to hit ball first.

Same, buy all new clubs and it goes back down
For the OP, gotta hit ball first, the end

Go get you a putting lesson man. Find something to work on.
Also sounds like you have zero confidence right now. Look into some stuff on the mental side of the game. That’s all I’ve been focusing on and I’ve seen some changes in results.

Will do.
I’m going to circle putt drill from 1,2 and 3 feet until it’s automatic.

I'd go play 9 holes with a half set, music, and knowing it won't get posted to ghin. Maybe taking a relaxing round with no pressure will put you back on the right path.
Putt everything out, but don't grind over three footers.

You can take relief from mud you know. As long as water comes up where you step by your ball, then you can move it to the nearest dry spot no closer to the hole.

Check out the spider X. Game changer on the greens for me.
That being said, my driver has gone to absolute shite and now I've found the hosel on even my short irons/wedges.
There is nothing fricking worse than the shanks. I put 2 in the water back to back on my birthday round last week and almost put my club in there as well.
So effing frustrating. I was flirting with 80 there for a few weeks and now firmly in the 88-95 range. Its brutal right now.

I'm right there with you. I started in May after I got laid off and played literally every single day. (I'd played golf before but this is the first set of clubs I've ever owned).
I got down to 85-86 every round but something weird happened to my swing. My irons shoot right every single time, but not my wedges.
And I don't mean slicing right, like piss straight but completely right of the green. I don't know if it's because my wrists aren't turned over and the club face is staying open or what but it's driving me mad. I don't know what to do to try and fix it.

You're probably catching the hosel some and trying to over correct thinking its an open face when in reality its a closed face.
I'm going through this shite right now.

Shanks almost made me quit the game two years ago.
Only thing that cured me was putting more weight on my heels, whip the club inside and try to hit the bottom right quadrant of the ball.
I feel for you, it is so frustrating to shank.

Still stuck in the Badlands.
I’ll keep trying.
I did get up and down on both par threes on my 9 hole round today.
They were sanding greens as I finished.
Went to range in lieu of back 9.
Not sure it’s productive to play 18 right now so I may try to practice more and just play 9 until things progress.

If u haven’t already read them, Bob Rotella wrote a series of 4 books you can buy as a package now on the mental approach to the game
He was the first “guru” I am aware of. Talks about putting and course management, along w game management.
He helped me break 80 years back when I had never had a lesson.
You can get them cheap on Amazon

And if it makes you feel any better, I’ve recently went from 11.1 back to 12.4
I’ve been playing about 350 more yards and working on a more full swing, so it has been expected.
Last 17 rounds since 6/20 have been 81-89, but I’m on the verge of a breakthrough. LOL

Sort of did this today.
Took several clubs out and had the cart guy drive me out to where my friends were at four green.
Hit two shots from different places. Chipped some. Putted.
It was fun.
I hit a few good shots.
Maybe I’ll play 9 Saturday.
