but one day you will run across a guy who will hear you say the first thing that could be "advice" and he will try to get you DQ'd. Some people are just dicks.
This was my first thought as well. Never underestimate what people will do to win

Unless the rule changed, you can give a distance without penalty. At least that’s how it was when i actually got to play tourneys. I could shoot the flag on a par 3 and tell you the distance, but I couldn’t tell you I hit a 7 iron.

It hasn't.

That is correct. The grey area would be if he's telling hole shapes and green locations I'd be willing to bet there were some inadvertent "you want to keep this one to the right side of the fairway" etc. Seems like a nice guy so probably wasn't just saying "hole turns left, green over there"

Probably the biggest eye opener I ever had in tournament golf was when I stepped up from playing state-level junior events and the like to AJGA. I got absolutely fricking smoked in my first AJGA event.
Try local-level junior golf to playing in the AJGA event when it passed through town.

These were decent players. They didn’t need that info. An example was 16. One of them saw 17 green and thought that was 16’s green. Told him it was behind the trees on the right. And he asked the distance to the bunkers on the left. 15 I told them left is OB. Nothing more. That’s something most people wouldn’t realize because it’s just trees. Could I have made a mistake at some point? I can’t remember every word I said, so I can’t gaurantee I didn’t.
Appreciate everyone’s heads up though. I’ll definitely be more cautious going forward.

Good. Didn’t want to play a goat track like BRCC anyway.

Some of you guys are so full of shite. Call it a short par 5 and you hit your drive 270 yards. You hit a 5 iron 200 yards but you are scared shitless of a bunker so you lay up.
My 5 iron only goes 180.

Come to LaTour and show us how it’s done big boy.
You guys need some more golf courses down there. Seems like there's only a few courses in your area. LaTour, the bluffs, and a couple of others..
I don't think the guy was beating his chest... he was just saying that someone who hits a 270yrd drive and a 5I 200 yards probably shouldn't be afraid of a sand trap.

That’s kinda the point of the thread. He shouldn’t be afraid of the trap, and he normally wouldn’t, but tournament jitters caught up to him.
