Have played Ping irons for years but wondering if their lie angle codes are more of a marketing tool than useful info. I got "fitted" years ago to a Silver dot (4 Degrees upright) but I question that 85% of us are consistent enough ball strikers to really tell much difference in a 1 or 2 degree lie angle vs a 4 degree angle. I have not been able to tell that much difference in my own experience. I am probably a 12-14 handicap on better days so not sure the quest for the exact lie angle is worth the time to try and find the specific lie angle.
I'm sure single handicap players may be consistent enough to tell, but opinions on the rest of us ?

A 1-2 angle difference, nah. If you handed me a 4* upright club versus a standard L/L/L, it'd be obvious.

How tall are you? I e never heard of anyone being 4 degree upright.

To answer your question, yes lie angle matters.

About 6 ft. Upright swing path I guess. Did the tape hit/fit drill by a club pro. Hit them ok I guess but have a Blue wedge I hit fine also. Think the old Silver was 3.75 degree but still pretty upright

The lie angle is extremely critical regardless of the manufacturer.

If the lie is too upright you'll pull balls with a perfect swing or of course hit it right with a too-flat lie. The higher the loft, the more this comes into play. Here's something you can do to see this: put a wedge on a table top so that it's soled in the center. Put the head of a tee on the center of the face , that the tee represents the ball leaving the face, tee pointed at the target. Pull the grip end down so that the toe comes up and watch how the tee starts pointing left. Do it with a 4iron and you'll see the tee doesn't move nearly as much.

Because of the toe-down effect during the swing your irons should sole 1/2 inch toward the heel. But if your wedges are 2* upright you'll miss the left bunkers. All tour players have their wedges a degree or 2 flatter than their other clubs.

I bought black dots off the rack. I really want them fitted for me, but I don’t want to be without my irons for six weeks while Ping does there thing. I’ve heard only Ping can do it but not sure.

Depending on what you bought, you can get them bent pretty much anywhere.

If they're cast they're going to be harder to bend than forged.

Other repair shops can bend them, but whoever you use you need to be certain they didn't change any lofts in the process, because it can happen. I would only trust Ping but I get not wanting to be without your tools for 6 weeks.

Have you had a lie angle test? If you're of average height they may already fit you.

Ping changed their Color Cide several years ago.

4 degrees up for a 6ft player is pretty severe, I would say do another fitting especially on a lie board.

Ping can bend the irons correctly, they whack them with a huge hammer. If one breaks, they replace it.

I would never let a regular golf bend any Ping over 1 degree period.

If you let Ping do them, heres a Pro Tip - if you overnight them to Ping directly, they will overnight them back to you.

Sounds like you got fit for a swing that really comes over the top

Or one that really drags the toe.

You may be on to something there. Odd thing is, misses are usually a push right which seems to be opposite what I would expect.

Sure, but also easy enough to check and fix at a local shop. I bent loft and lie on dozens of G2s and I3s back in the day.

If you’re divots are left of target it’s because you’re way too steep. If you’re a handle raiser most likely you’re not rotating through the ball and due to being so steep you can’t snd you’re most likely coming up and out of it (spine angle) Leads to a lot of weak right shots and you rely on your hands to get you squared at impact. Go get a lesson and see what the issue is. It’s rare someone is that much upright but a lie board def isn’t the way to figure that out.

I think I would definitely notice a 4* lie difference. I'm close to you on handicap.

May just send to Ping if the turnaround time isn’t too bad. Seems they are reasonable on the cost and guarantee the work. This set is i20, may have them bent back to 2*. Saw some got theirs back in couple weeks but not sure these days.

I have the G410s. You think a local shop can fix those?
