NLU Podcast: Oral History of the 1991 Ryder Cup
They just put this out this week, and I'd recommend it to any golf fan. It was really good. I mostly started this thread because of Seve Ballesteros. I am too young to remember watching him play, but after listening to this podcast, the guy sounds like he was a huge a-hole. I feel like I have always heard people talk lovingly of him, but some of the stuff he pulled, and most of it sounds like it was commonplace for him, it seems he would be more hated.

Csb: one of my college roommates dads beat Seve in the 93 Ryder cup and we won that one.

Anytime a great athlete dies before their time they’ll be remembered fondly.

If Patrick Reed died tomorrow 10 years from now 90% of people would remember him fondly as a great player and likely a HoFer

I know this board is excluded in that group

Oral history was great. The Golf Network special on the 91 Ryder Cup is also great. So many big personalities and storylines. Still clearly some hurt feelings.

Langer is a class act. Brutal hearing him retell the pain of the missed putt again. Also sounds like Payne Stewart was the frickin' man.

I think Seve was well liked outside of that one week/yr. He just got crazy amped up for the Ryder cup and did a lot of sketchy gamesmanship stuff. He was like a Moses for European golf. They had been in the desert for quite a while before he came along

NLU impressed me with their content and production. They do a fine job. This pod seems to stand taller than the rest. It was great.

Oddly, I feel the opposite. I generally love all the NLU stuff, and this seemed like an audiobook. All the things that make NLU great were missing. I applaud the effort, but give me back my Soly.

oddly enough, that’s what I enjoyed about it. Either way, I didn’t know much about the 91 Ryder cup and it was a good listen.

The weakest parts were definitely Soly narrating but I think he also produced and edited it so I commend him for putting it all together. It was a pretty large project to take on.

Really enjoyed the podcast. Agree with soly narrating at times it felt like forced to be audio bookish. But I try not to complain with peoples content doesn’t do exactly what I want it to. Great stories and insight. Loved the audio clips from the guys.

It was very This American Life or similar podcast productions. It isn't their normal around the horn stuff, but I thought it was good.
