Thread on LSU course falling apart got me thinking. What is the best school-owned or -operated course you have seen or played?

MS State's course is really nice, definitely the best I've played (which makes sense given their turf mgmt and PGM programs).

Any others to check out?

Yale GC

Mississippi state is great, but Yale is the Augusta of college courses.

Almost replied with Karsten Creek but it’s not run by the school and it’s a separate club and not on campus.

Good call. I've played the Gray a couple times but never Scarlet. Walked it during a Korn Ferry Tour tourney. It is really nice.

How easy (hard) is it to get on at Yale?

As far as SEC courses go it has to be UGA's course. One of my favorites I've ever played. Not overly expensive to play either plus the public can play it. My alma mater also has a fun public course ran by the University, A.L. Gustin. Definitely recommend if you come up to attend a Mizzou game. Big weakness of a lot of SEC schools is that their courses are private and really not geared towards the students at all. UGA and Mizzou are exceptions to that.

The UGA course is top notch for a public course. It was redone by Davis Love’s group a few years back.

The only other university course Ive played is Ole Miss and it is barely average. It’s also the slowest play I’ve encountered anywhere at any point in my life.

The U (Utah) blows. Its been that way since since the mid 90's when I was a student. At AU the campus course used to be Pin Oaks or Indian Pines. Pin Oaks was a cow pasture and Indian Pines is a decent track.

I think the official AU course is now Auburn University Links. Its a private club but I played it probably 20 years ago before it went private. I remember one time I was close to par at the turn but the beer took over on the back nine. It was hilly and smallish greens, that I do remember.

(edit) The official name is Auburn University Club: LINK /

Purdue has an amazing facility as well. Redone by Pete Dye a while back. It was good before but it's really good now.
