They both can....really, really well.

The coaching is not what is causing these issues.
LSU will get pretty much who they want from the Shreveport 265 area and Baton Rouge area. No doubt.
Problem is these kids are not really ranked high overall nationwide. Texas, Florida, Georgia, California dwarf LA junior golf.
Hell, there are not two LA kids that could be constant top 10 in junior San Diego events - just so many damn good golfers.
LSU has a tough, tough time getting the highest level kids from out of state.
Go look at Arizona State, Stanford, Texas, Ok State type facilities next to LSU - it is a joke. Hell, look at the courses USCal gets to play every week for practice rounds - some of the best.
Next time an AJGA event is in LA, watch the leaderboard - not since Sam Burns have we had a kid that can dominate against the nation’s best.
UL-M, LaTech, UNO….all the other D1 schools have loads of international players - we just don’t have the pipeline.

Back to real golf:
The Bath regional was sick
Georgia
Texas
Florida
Illinois
Salty strong right there - some regionals were a little weak this year….and -40 GTFO with that - do better NCAA

While I agree with all lot of your points, I’m not talking about competing with Stanford, Arizona State, Pepperdine, Texas, Oklahoma State. I’m talking about being competitive in the SEC where we are 11th. Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, A&M, Tennessee are all better than us. These schools aren’t in talent rich states (except a&m, but they have to compete with UT, Ok state, Oklahoma, TT, SMU), and being the only major program in the state is a big advantage.
We have Garrett Barber, a top 5 recruit, Trolio, a us am semi finalist and junior finalist, and others, so I don’t think you can say it’s due to a lack of talent. And if it is a lack of talent, which I don’t think it is, a top 30 player in the country from Lafayette went elsewhere on his watch, which may be an indictment of the current program

At D1 level, there are a ton of international golfers. I’m not sure in state recruiting could carry any program to the top levels.

Both Baylor's Men and Women's teams made it to the championships, I took a look at their rosters.
The Men have 5 guys from Texas and 4 from other states.
The Women have 7 Internationals, 1 from Texas and 1 from Iowa.

LSU misses out on very highly rated in state juniors - and if I were a top 30 AJGA player, LSU would not be in consideration. And no one can blame a top 30 kid for picking GT over LSU.
The SEC schools have better facilities than LSU. Heck, many argue that Louisiana Tech has the best D1 set up in the state with their unlimited access to Squire and all the resources that facility offers a D1 golfer.
LSU has more upward potential than any other major D1 program - it is going to take some large donations and a real strategic plan on facility development.
IF I was on LSU staff, I would establish a relationship with a couple of the best junior coaches in the San Diego area and recruit that area relentlessly. Then every other minute would be focusing on Dallas, Austin and Houston. The pool is some much larger there.
Then, get Toms, Burns and Bateman to help with a long term plan - those are pga tour winners that know more about college golf that 99.999999% of the world.

I know LSU uses the U Club and has their practice tees on the far side of the driving range. Do they have bunkers, greens, and other amenities because some of the big schools have amazing practice facilities. Baylor is no power house but they built a very nice practice facility about 3/4 mile from campus with multilevel clubhouse, offices, weight and training rooms. The downside is they have to go across town to actually get playing time on a course.

Since 2011, LSU has an individual national champion and a team championship. That’s more than a lot of schools can say. And their recruitment from in and out of state has been solid.
I think the coaching staff is aware of the pitfalls of LA golf….
Also, OK state didn’t make NCAA’s this year. shite happens

Texas has like 30 million people.
Smaller states like Alabama are not able to supply enough D1 golfers for Alabama and Auburn.
Auburn’s 10 man roster has 6 out of state. Alabama is the same.

Auburn and A&M have a really good group coming in next year.

For Auburn the class is from Australia, California, and Kentucky.
These teams recruit worldwide.
The rosters are rounded out with a few in state guys.
