I decided it was time for new Irons after breaking my 7i off in the ferrule a couple weeks ago. The gentleman I took my club to for repair talked me into letting him do a fitting for me. It was an old school fitting( strike tape, lie board, sound/feel) minus one addition. Mizunos Swing DNA program. You make three swings with this special club and the software reads 8 data points. Club head speed, tempo, toe down, kick angle, release factor, digital lie angle, attack angle, and shaft lean.

It takes those data points and gives you the top 3 shafts for your swing characteristics and will recommend up to like 10 alternates. My top3 were all KBS 130x(C-taper, $ Taper, Tour).
I was pretty skeptical although he had just returned from The Foundry and they talked about that it works so well that fitters and customers both want it to read more stuff because it’s so simple they can’t believe it works as well as it does.
I wanted to test some brands he didn’t carry so I did a second fitting with Ryan at The David Toms academy. We ended up in the exact head and shaft as what the Swing optimizer picked. The Swing DNA optimizer has been around for quite a while but I had never heard of it. Anyone else have any experience with it and did it suggest the same shaft you ended up playing?

My top 4 were T-100/T-150 combo, Callaway AI Apex 150(HOT)
P7CB/770 combo
JPX925Forged

130x C-Taper

Ended up going with the extra forgiveness of the Mizunos but hit the Callaway just as well and had slightly lower spin numbers. Biggest factor was Mizuno offering the C-taper free and the others all up charging it.

Also hit i240 and blueprint S Pings but for some reason I can’t hit any Ping iron. I240s were super spinny and launched into orbit.

I have never heard of the Swing DNA. Where did you hit it? Ryan is great. He fit my irons and a couple other clubs in my bag. Very pleased with all of them.

Peter Winkler in Keithville uses it.

I was new to it as well. But after doing it I came home and watched a bunch of info on it and it seems to be a excellent tool to point a fitting in the right direction and supposedly almost always the shaft you end up in is one of the top 3 it picks.

It pays zero attention to the ball. It’s strictly measuring the swing

this is an elite place to get fitted for clubs. Mizuno knows how to do it. We were out there a few months ago after going to the Kingdom at Lake Oconee, I think its better than the Kingdom.

I’d love to eventually check both out. I will say Mizuno has a better name for theirs.

If only distance translated to being good.

I am the perfect example of all those “how far do certain handicaps hit their irons” charts being full of shite.

Did you like the fitting overall with WInkler? Debated going out there for my next set.

I like Winkler, I’ve taken a couple lessons with him previously. But I’m a little bit of a data nerd so I wanted more from that side of things than what we had. Now that’s not to say he didn’t do a good job because I ended up in the exact same configuration we decided on when I went to Ryan at EastRidge.

I’d say cons for Winkler are less data, and that he has less major manufacturers(doesn’t have Titliest, callaway, Srixon)

Pros though are that it’s only $100 bucks, which he applies to your clubs if you order through him, he price matches the best price he can find online, and he double checks your lofts and lies when the clubs arrive.

I’ll also add that if you are looking at a driver/wood fitting I didn’t notice any Ventus velocores in the fitting bay. That’s not to say he doesn’t have test shafts for them just that I didn’t notice any when looking around.

Definitely going to take some getting used to. 24grams heavier than what I was playing and rigid as a light pole.
