Good morning! Anyone have experience playing Mallard Golf Club in Lake Charles? LGA Four-ball is up there in a couple weeks. Just looking for any insight other than what I can see on Google. Plan to play a practice round sometime next week. Thanks!

Pretty forgiving course. Fairways are generally wide. It’s a course for mid handicappers IMO. Last time I played the greens were hard as concrete but that was a year ago.

Its a fun course.
1) Expect wind, lots of wind. There nothing slowing it down from the gulf
2) Everything is in front of you. There's really no hidden trouble except for 4 (?) the first par 5. Its a dog leg with OB on the left and water if you go through the fairway straight. Play it as a 3 shot hole and get out of there. If you try to cut off too much fairway, you'll likely be long in the water. If it's wet, its a safer shot.
3) Walk around every putt. There are subtle breaks on the greens.
4) Speaking of greens, if it is very dry, get ready to land everything on the front of the green. they can become very hard and non receptive.
5) The carts have built in GPS which will shut the cart down if you drive anywhere near the over growth areas or the green. It's aggravating as hell.
6) Don't expect to go torch it like most resort style courses. Par is a good score on a lot of holes due to all the factors above. Again, if it gets a lot of rain before the tournament, that can change.

Wind and rock hard greens. Hard to hold downwind shots. Wide fairways but penal rough on dome holes.

Greens were def almost bald about 2 months ago. They have come along way. Not great by any means, but much improved. Some even had sod put on them

I haven't played the new Mallard yet, but I plan to soon. I've been hacking up the Frasch golf course in Sulphur. Its cheap, and so is my game currently.

Like others said, windy and rock hard greens.
Unfortunately a lot of the greens are built up too so not the easiest to run something up there.
Anyone know if the pro shop is open? Will be playing g Saturday.
