Has it gotten any better or is it still a joke to play out there? Not looking for Augusta but I don't want to lose my ball if I magically hit the faiway

I will save everyone the time:

It is garbage.

Make it a parking lot.

Why doesn't the landscaping students maintain it?

I miss the old setup.

So many fun times there as a student.

The layout really is fun.

Back when Mike was there it was primo!

I wish it was open just for the practice area.

XYZ College has a nice course why can't LSU?

I would like to know as well. I have a rain check burning a hole in my pocket. It wasn’t for rain but for atrocious greens and making me pay more than $5 for the round.

He will edit it soon to tell us all that it’s BREC’s fault.

Was told that they cannot touch it only offer advice. It's a shame because looks like they finally caught up with the grass cutting. I sometimes go out there on Sunday mornings because it's the only course you can get a green fee at that time. Went 2 weeks ago, they charged me $35. At least a couple of months ago they were cheaper because it was in bad shape, it still is.

Just to be clear, you are bringing BREC into this. Not me. But, you all know LSU's course isn't needed while BREC continues to operate the way they do. BREC is in the business to provide golf and lose money at it. LSU is not in the business to provide golf at a loss to GBR.

As long as BREC exist, a cap will be put on how much LSU can charge and spread out how many people will be willing to play there (primarily during the week since all courses get weekend play).

I am just explaining basic economics and business.

Played there last week with some buddies. One of the greens was respectable, the rest don’t bother getting mad at your putting.

As far as losing a ball in the fairway, had that happen multiple times in our group even when multiple people watched where it went, some of the fairways seem like legit roughs on other courses.

For the price and if you don’t mind losing a few balls, it’s worth going out there with some buddies

Played there yesterday, greens are the best they have been in years. I was told they brought in a guy that really knows how to bring the greens back and it appears to be working. I will play there again next week.

It’s where politics rule. Tool Mike Johnson’s salary gave it to some accountant offsite it’s run by a retired plant worker. He is working a zillion hours but given no support. It’s run about as good as New Orleans is right now. They should privatize it like they did the bookstore. Let someone who knows what the hell they’re doing run it!

Your first post in 5 years is to come say a course that doesn’t give a shite about anything all of a sudden brought in a guy, in the winter of all times, to bring the greens back

Sounds legit, thanks man

I was once told by a golf course manager that all greens should look good during the winter, it's not hard to grow rye grass this time of the year.

They did bring in an independent contractor to spray greens on a regular basis and do some other spraying. He started late fall, and will continue this spring.

Decided to go check out LSU this morning. Haven't played there in over 2 years and the last time the greens were nothing more than dirt with some clumps of grass mixed in.

I would say the greens right now are comparable to City Park (which I last played in early November). They appeared to be overseeded rye that's cut relatively short, but the grass to dirt ratio is the highest its been in years. They are slow, but puttable. The worst 2 greens were #2 and #17.

The rest of the course is pretty much how it's been for years. Super thick rough off the fairway that will swallow your ball if you don't pay attention to exactly where it went. The "fairways" are pretty much light rough anywhere else. Tee boxes aren't great either.

I'm in no hurry to go back, but I'll probably check it out again in late spring to see if they've made any progress. There are some fun holes out there and nostalgia keeps me from writing it off completely.
