Getting back into golf. Used to be really good (scratch 15 years ago) but never had a lob wedge. Tell me why I need one.

To learn trick shots for YouTube and TikTok.....that's about it

If you like to swing full on 70-90 yard shots rather than trying to 3/4 swing a 56. Or if you prefer to hit a high pitch around the greens (over bunkers, for example) and feel more comfortable doing that than with a 56 or 52.
That's about it... but I like having it in the bag for those situations.

Dave Pelz 3x4 wedge system.
- 4 wedges. 3 controlled swing lengths.
- 7:30
- 9:00
- 10:30
Then full swing.
Can dial in distances much better. If you don’t have 4 wedges. You’re leaving tons of control at home. You’ll build a distance control matrix and cover em all from 100 yards in.
Most golfers lose 8+ shots per round inside 100 yards. Get Dave Pelz Short Game Bible which was recommended by another poster. It’s been a huge help for me.

Plus agreed with the prior poster. You can use the 60 around the greens a ton.
Full 60 flies 110-115 for me. 56 120-125. 52 125-130. Ballpark!

The Lob Wedge is a beautiful woman who occasionally cheats on you !
With that said, my 60 degree Vokey SM8 is my club out of the bunker.

I have one because I have more 60-80 yard shots than I do 205-215 yard shots. Makes it more valuable to me than a three iron, so I put it in the bag.
If you were scratch without one I see no reason to add one. Seems like you are just fine without one.

Short side shots.
Some bunker shots.
I carry one, but you could just open up a 56 and not hit to short side.

If you hit your 56 that far, we aren’t in the same ballpark. That’s ridiculous

I am proficient out sand with 56. Just open the club if I need to flop. Those 60-70 yard shots are the only reason I think

You are a big hitter compared to me.
My 45 degree pitching wedge is maybe 110 max.

Agreed. A flushed 56 goes 95 yards. Gap wedge 105 to 115.

Lately, with wedges, I’ve been clubbing up and using sort of a 3/4 swing.
Creates a lower ball flight with more spin for me.

I used to use my 60 by far the most, basically on every shot inside 100 yards. In the past few months I’ve stopped that, I’ve learned I’m better with a 56 on 1/2 wedge shots then a 60. A full 60 for me is 90-95 yards but I used to hit a punch type 60 up to 105, I’ve stopped that nonsense, I now hit a controlled 56 and I’m way more consistent.
I use the 60 out of the bunker and for pitches or mid range wedge shots that call for lots of loft

For me, the lob wedge is more about having a different grind and bounce from my sand wedge than it is about hitting flop shots. Sometimes you just need a lower bounce or lower leading edge for a shot than the sand wedge has. With two different high lofted wedges with different grinds and profiles, you should be able to handle any shot/lie you are presented with.

I have a 10 inch dick
To answer the OP, I use my 60 a whole lot, but that's my style. If I'm within 60 yards I know I can put it in the back of stance and get some back spin on it which will let me let go a bit and aim more towards to the pin. Unless I'm on a goat ranch, then I'm using my gap wedge and letting it bounce up onto the green.

I have a 64 degree Cleveland that I will put in the bag when I am feeling really sadistic.
