re: Liv and PGA to merge

A lot of talk about winners and losers yesterday. Some thinking Monohan was the big winner. I think it is too early to know for sure, but this is Alan Shipnuk’s take in calling him a loser in this deal (SIAP):
quote:
Monahan. He turned the battle with LIV into one of legacy, and then morality. Neither argument kept his players from defecting. Then, despite admitting the Tour could never compete dollar for dollar with the PIF, he tried to do exactly that. LIV was always going to win a war of attrition—anybody could see that. The Saudis reached out to Monahan in April 2021, hoping to partner with the Tour. Monahan wouldn’t take the meeting. He could have co-opted them then with minimal disruption to his business. Instead he chose to fight, and now the Tour as we knew it is no more. One fired-up player agent texted this to me on Tuesday afternoon: “The facts are this: Jay grossly misjudged the resources and fortitude of the PIF and did nothing proactive to make the tour less vulnerable to a competitive offering. Upon realizing that the PIF would finance LIV with huge economic incentives, Jay’s solution was to restructure the tour schedule and purses but he failed to ensure that such changes were economically viable. The marketplace answered that question definitively as sponsors were lining up to get out of their deals. The suggestion that the tour’s outlook was bright was wishful thinking at best. With Koepka’s win at the PGA Championship, the PGA Tour’s ultimate plan of ‘waiting them out’ as washed-up diminishing assets became more of a dream than a strategic plan to combat an existential threat. Jay has proven to be grossly unqualified, unprepared and incapable of providing the true leadership that the PGA Tour players deserved through this process. He mixed his ego with his ignorance. As a result of this, the PGA Tour is now essentially an asset of the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Well done Jay!”

Even Rory seemed resigned to the fact the Jay won’t be commissioner long.

He shouldn't be. Doing all of this in the dark should have gotten him fired yesterday.

There is absolutely no way he remains commissioner
Only way is if when the deal is finally presented and the players have so much more money they get over any other past issues, but I think they will want to out him before it gets to that point t.

The reality is, cutting a deal with LIV was inevitable. He had to do it eventually. He seemingly was one of the last to come to this realization. The way he handled everything in the past year and a half doesn’t make sense.
Actually making a deal to merge isn’t really the mistake. It’s the manner in which he did it that will likely be his undoing.

He will not be the PGA tour commissioner. But if the players want the higher purses and better deal, he will be CEO of the for profit entity
Need me to draw it in Microsoft paint for you?

Ah. Got it. You think he will be CEO but not commish. That makes sense.

Oh settle down, Sally. No need to emote all over all of the threads because you are obsessed with all things LIV.

This is from the LIv source being quoted in here earlier
Y’all still think that source form LIV is handling this rationally? LIv will continue on past this year as usual?
The LIv people are either being lied to or absolutely refusing to believe what is happening
quote:
This is from sources at LIV about the meeting today:
- LIV golf isn’t going anywhere
- We are and will continue to be a stand alone entity
- Business as usual for us for this year and beyond
- All headwinds and obstacles have now been removed and our runway is clear
- LIV golf potential is now supercharged
- The amount of blue chip sponsors, etc. that have reached out ready to engage is overwhelming

Did you watch the Yasir/Monohan cnbc interview.? Yasir certainly insinuated that was the case.

It doesn’t bother me. I have no clue who that dude is in real life and am not emotionally attached to this in any way. I like the banter. He can try to be an a-hole, but it won’t get the reaction he is hoping for.

The same “insults” by me are competent reciprocated by you and ell and others. Acting like it’s one sided and you are handling this like an emotionless critical thinker is the biggest joke of the entire ordeal

Assuming you fat fingered and you meant “consistently.”

Never said it was one sided. I am indeed not emotionally invested in this, however. Despite having a very good friend on tour and a huge affinity for watching golf both live and on tv.

Link please. I am saying THE TOUR is dismissing his response
At that point in the discussion it was just simply reacting to players reactions. You were already in favor of this deal as you said and so you were fending off negative points that went against what you said you wanted. Nobody was talking about the tour's opinion.
And yes the tour cares about WB's opinion, because as we now know from the meeting feedback, he represented more than just himself with that opinion. So your dismissal of WBs opinion was clearly wrong any way.

So, sorry if I missed it, but who all were involved in the decision with the commish?
Posted on 6/7/23 at 2:35 pm to BBONDS25
Jay is a puppet. His puppet master is really powerful though.

I know one question people had was Ryder cup. The European side confirmed liv players are still banned from the Ryder cup
