Tee off at 8:15 this morning and the kid at the pro shot slips another group in front of us. No big deal, we are a foursome might be a little delay, but should smooth out over a few holes. Well one of our group no shows so we catch the group in front of us on hole number 3. Three men and one woman and it looked like a heated match, because they never let our threesome fricking through. Should have said something at the turn but didn't and the slow play continued. Here's the kicker. The starter is now a marshal and meets us at number 12 fairway. He rolls up and I'm ready for him. He say's how is everything going, I say not worth a frick. He asked why and I splain it to him Lucy. He picks up a tee time list and starts looking at team times, and by the time he makes a decision to do anything, we are finally able to approach the green. After I hit, I turn around and the marshal hauls arse, heads back towards the pro shop. WTF! So, we finish in 4 hours which is a normal 18-hole round, but we could have finished in 3 if these assholes would have let us through after 4 holes. We played with a member and I'm pretty sure the 4 ahead of us were all members and kept bugging our member to call the pro shop, but he never did. And my handicap is soaring because of shite show like this. Okay I feel better.

Sounds like you were invited to a private club and are bitching about a 4 hour round even though you…

We let a group through yesterday.

It seems like the fastest group is always behind you, and the slowest is always ahead.

They played through quickly. We were walking. They were riding. It was right after a par 3. No big deal. There was nobody behind them so we practiced on the greens after they passed us.

We were not playing slow, but they were almost hitting into us on a couple of holes so we decided just to let them go.
Never saw them again.

Semi. If it was private, I know nothing would be done. Figured the marshal would ride up and ask the group to let us through.

It’s on the member to do anything. If I’m a guest, I keep my mouth shut but that’s me.

I'm not a guest, it's semiprivate, walk on is welcome. But your right, my chicken shite member in the group should have stepped up. It was just aggravating as frick in this hot arse weather to wait every shot.

If the group ahead is keeping pace, especially with an early morning tee time, I agree with not letting a group play thru. It may allow your group to play faster, but slows down play for all groups behind. On a busy day, that causes issues the rest of the day.

If I’m playing by myself, which I do a fair bit of there’s nobody in front of me I can knock out 18 in 2 hours no problem. If they finished the round in 4 hours with a foursome they aren’t playing slow.

If I’m behind a group that isn’t letting me play through…practice time. I hit extra chips, extra putts, another ball out of the fairway. As long as I’m not slowing down the people behind me it’s fine, not like I’m playing in a tournament.

If you’re playing 3 and playing for something, get creative. Closest to the hole in a chip off gets the bill when the cart girl comes by. Something to occupy a few minutes here and there and you’ll quit worrying about playing at warp speed.

I don't know which I hate the most, a slow group ahead of me or a group behind me on my arse. I always let fasters players though. It says this on the fricking score card.

So they kept a 4 hour pace - no problem with them not letting you through.

You are not entitled to a 3 hour round on a Sunday morning at a public golf course. Stop your bitching.

Grow up. They weren’t slow. If they’re keeping pace with the group in front of them they’re under no obligation to let you play through.

I’ll bet fairly large amounts of money I play through more groups than anyone else in here, and I never ask to play through if the group in front is keeping pace.

I totally get not wanting to play a 4.5+ hour round but of the pace bitching has gotten OOC.

A buddy and I played with my dad and one of his friends a few rounds back and we're a foursome and my dad's friend would not stfu about pace pace pace.

We finished the round in barely over 3 hours. Guy wanted us to keep pace with the twosome ahead of us.

People on my arse is way worse than waiting.

I don’t mind waiting if they get the hint after a couple holes.

There where 3 to 4 open holes ahead of them. That's the first thing I asked the marshal when he showed up. He was traveling against the grain so he should have seen the open holes and said something A group behind us caught us and one was fricking walking. Walking in this heat is very brave.

Bad idea.

I had somebody hit into me on the first fairway. Crazy.

IF you hit into enough groups, you will eventually find out how tough you and they are. I’m on blood thinner so
I never hit into anyone. It is not worth it.

Was there a hole open ahead of them?

IF I’m riding, I’d just go right by IF there is a two hole gap, and I’m in a hurry.

Golf courses are more crowded than ever. I miss playing quickly, but the new normal is 4-4.5 hours on the weekend at our club. It use to be 3.25-3.5 hours.

Tee sheets are packed. Lots of new golfers and people taking the game back up. More women and juniors than ever.

I’ve struggled adjusting to the slower pace, but I’m getting acclimated. I accept that golf is more popular than ever and people are playing round after round.

Where’s the fire?

I use to play more with an older group, but they knock 5 footers back and race around the course. I don’t play slow, but I need to putt anything outside the putter for sure.

what does that make you? A coward for not speaking up? You easily could have asked politely to play through. Thats on you.

Skip one, write down 3 pars.

Theres ways around just about every situation that beats being unhappy on a golf course.

I’ve been playing for over 50 years, took me longer than it should’ve to learn that.
