Kapalua Plantation Course this weekend

I was lucky enough to play this course twice about 10 years ago.
I am still in awe of it when I see it on TV, The footprint and sheer size of the Plantation Course is astounding. You could land a large plane on # 18 alone.
For those that have played it, I was 4 inches from a hole in one on # 8 par three called The Gorge Hole.
One morning we were playing in a misting rain when an ambulance came flying down the opposite fairway. Two Asian men ignored the Marshall's warning to keep the cart on the part while raining and they slide off the side of the fairway and dropped about 15 feet into the ravine.
The slope on the fairways can be unreal.
Of you are looking for a course to add to your bucket list. I recommend the Plantation Course for golf and drinks at Kimo's afterwards.

Played it on my honeymoon and it was windy AF. Hit a 5 wood into the 9th green from 160 out

I want to know how in the ever living frick they were able to get permits to plow Pineapple (?) fields for a golf course in Malibu. No way they allow new developments their anymore right? The course is a masterpiece and it’s on some of the most prime land on the planet.

People were more logical 30 years ago.
Tourism alone has paid for it many times over.

I guess but they’ve been environmental freaks forever. I would guess it’s near impossible to build a new course out there now.
So is this course not private? How much are green fees to the guys who have played it?

Been one of my bucket list courses ever since I saw the first tournament on TV. Unreal.

I was supposed to play it when I was in Maui 5 years ago but it got 10 inches of rain 6 hours before our tee time, the guys said we could come but half the fairways were unplayable and standing water was everywhere, we decided paying $400 for an underwater course wasn’t worth it.
We were staying in Wailae so we played all 3 of the Wailae resort courses (Blue, Gold, Diamond). Those courses were beautiful but I do wish we could’ve played Kapalua

200.00 last I heard. If you stay at the Village you can get a better rate.

Everything you said. Wonderful experience.
We were out on Maui this past summer and stayed at The Montage. Played the Plantation Course twice - once in the morning in what seemed like tropical storm winds and once in the afternoon when the winds had laid down. Two terrific rounds.
Like you said, the slopes on the fairways are wild. Hard to comprehend how steep they are when watching the tourney on TV.
Also played a round at the Bay Course at Kapalua, which actually takes you down to the ocean. Fun course, too.
And "yes" to Kimos!

Played it in 2004. The weather was crazy. Rain on 2,3,8, 9 and 10 and sunshine the rest of the day. Was an amazing round of golf. Holed out for eagle on 6 from the bunker in the middle of the fairway and birdied 12 and 18. Shot 84. On 18 I hit tee ball I thought was right out of bounds. Went to hit another when one of the guys I was playing with said it was perfect. Didn’t believe him and hit a provisional. Come to find out the first ball was resting in the middle of the fairway about 240 out. They have cool bag tags of butterfly with a pineapple.
By the way, my favorite course if the prince in princeville. Strange circumstances surrounding it being closed permanently.

That was the one with the Lighthouse on Kauai that the hurricane wiped out ?
