Played a member guest a couple of weeks ago and one par 3 was closest to the hole only for the guest. My buddy knocks it up close and his partner(member) tells him to pick it up after he measured it, 26". It was a 2-man scramble, and they probably would have made the putt, but where does this leniency stop. frick it, it's on the green, pick it up. What say you high and mighty GB?

If inside the area beneath the putter grip and the head when the head is placed in the hole...pick it up.

We always have action on the line so It’s not a gimme till your playing partners tell you it’s good. And not all 2’ putts are equal. But from what you explained, yeah I’m giving a 2 footer in a scramble.

If your opponent says it’s good, it’s good.

There’s definitely a caveat when you’re playing multi group games. I don’t like gimmes unless there’s a specified, exact length for that matter.

If there is any doubt, putt it. Do you want to be the guy that “would’ve scored two strokes better if I would’ve been given more putts?”

Is it a friend of mine?

Is temperature 100 degrees?

Is it almost dark on #17?

I’d bet significant amounts of money you wouldn’t make the putt he missed.

In a tournament, everything should be putted out. 2 inches or not. You should be DQ’d for not putting 18 balls in cups.

There aren't any gimmies in a tournament, mark it, step back and putt it.

If you scared to make a 2 footer, then you have no hope from 10ft.

Well it's ridiculous for the partner to make this decision. If the opponents give it then it's good.

Simple solution.

Don’t play gimmies.

I never have, never will.

if it's so easy and you would've made it, then just make it. there is no such thing as a gimme - just make the putt.

So they decided to pick it up, y'all weren't the ones that gave it to them? on a scramble all putts should be finished out. I make that announcement every year at the scramble I host. Yes, you most likely would have made it, but also it's not a guarantee. Makes it a little worse imo even though it wasn't match play, that they decided it was a gimmie instead of the opposing team.

the entire object of golf is to get the ball IN the hole in as few strokes as possible

Yea, this is what kinda got me they didn’t even ask if it was good. Of course they would of gotten a hell no from me. But it was Saturday s round and my buddy s partner is among the rulers of this club. Now thinking back to that round, I kept bringing up 2’2” when asked if the putt was good or not. Is this putt good? I would reply, is it 2’2”? And the member said something kinda snarky later on in the round that kinda upset me. Something about hope your partner helps you tomorrow to my member partner. Guess 2’2” got em in the feels. Anytime I knock it close and it’s for a prize, putt it out. In our game you have to validate hitting it close to the pin for a greenie, par or better.
