I have always focused on the ball when swinging, but have started focusing an inch or two in front of the ball on iron shots. I’ve started hitting more solid, consistent shots. My question is this: if anyone uses this idea, do you focus behind the ball on your driver to achieve an upward arc at contact? What about fairway woods? Any input appreciated.

Frist, do you inhale or exhale when you start your swing?

I always focus on the ball. For me I focus on keeping my head still in the back swing and shifting my weight forward just before I reach the top of my back swing. I’m assuming aiming for a spot in front of the ball is doing the same for you. I’d do it for fairway woods if it’s helping your irons. You want to slightly hit down on your fairway woods. Play with it. Maybe not focus as far in for of the ball for fairway woods. It’s all about whatever feel works for you and gets you in position.

I focus on hitting just below the equator of the ball with driver.
I try to feel like I’m taking a divot with the woods, even though I never do.

I haven’t focused on either. What works for you?

Honestly I think the only thing that’s “the right way” is what works for you. I only am interested in the right position in the stance and getting the takeaway back correctly. Do that, the rest pretty much takes care of itself

I'm just fricking with you. Your question, where do you focus on hitting the ball, and my question, do you breath in or out, are well known tactics during match play to frick with your opponent to get them thinking about shite they normally don't think about when hitting a ball.

I honestly thought OP was trolling with this thread. The breathing one is always a good one.
“I noticed when you breath in right before you putt, you always make it! That’s awesome. I might try that.”

I oddly focus about an inch above the ball. Makes me feel like my chin is up and my shoulders can rotate behind the ball/under my chin.

On driver, I let the ball get in the way of the swing. Pick a spot behind and a spot after and have them act like sites on a rifle. Ball just happens to be in a straight line between them. Bottom out at the first spot and when the ball gets in the way, it'll be on the up.
