How wrong was earlier golf with metal spikes and little foot movement?

Sheffler is all over the place but can hit a target on a dime.

There were some pretty good players that wore spikes, hit “blades” & persimmon woods, AND played wound balls.

I think it is unfair to compare those players with their “reverse C” swings and the modern players with all of their CAD clubs/shoes/balls. Just my $0.10…

He's actually ranked 103 this year in proximity to the hole on approach.

And tbh his footwork appears to be much much calmer these days vs 3 or 4 years ago.

I still have to have firm footing and use wide based heavy grip shoes.

How many are giving this stance a look this week on the range?

Fox's swing looks like some old dudes i play with. Nothing pretty but it gets the job done.

Pointing that front foot towards the target will help a lot of players get their hips around. Old guys have been using that trick for a long time.

That’s exactly what I thought. Dudes got some early arthritis and carrying extra pounds. He’s an inspiration.

Scottie would break something or pull his right hip out of socket if you put him in metal spikes.

I still use it to this day 30+ years after I turned professional. Allowed me to lengthen my shoulder turn and add distance to a 5’10” 160 lb frame.

The great Golfers always seem to swing their own way and not according to any manual.

For you young guys, You will never see a better round of golf than Johnny Miller in his prime shooting 61 with such inferior equipment compared to todays. I encourage you to watch some old clips of him.

Trevino was another, you would never want to copy his swing, but he always hit the shot that he wanted to hit.

TBH Scottie could probably cross his feet and still stripe the shite out of the ball. Don’t compare yourself to those guys

Did that Fox stance tonight. Loved it. Helped me get around easier and way less stress on my left hip. I may keep it for that reason alone as my left hip is not in good shape right now.
