How do you handicap a 4ball team

Player A is an 8 handicap
Player B has never broke 100.
How would you flight this team in a pre-fighted tournament?

Off the low man. The lower handicap will shoot his score regardless of his partner. Unfortunately for him he just won’t have help most likely if he struggles on a hole.

They cant be more than 10 stroke difference in most club tournaments. Some are 8. Let’s say ones 8 and ones 28. The 28 plays as an 18.

Champ flight, first flight, then second flight for them

If an 8 handicap averages say 10 over par. He should realistically shoot 10 over in a tournament. I get that some people choke but some like the grind of tournament golf. If the 10 stroke rule is in effect. 8 and 18 equals 26. I would gladly put my money on the 8 Vs two 13 handicaps in the same flight.
The 8 handicap should be flighted with others near his handicap. If his partner happens to get lucky and cut him a hole great. It was his choice to play with a higher handicap.

The 8, if legit, is beating 2 12s and greater.
The 8 and partner goes in with the 9s.

We typically flight off the lower handicap. Especially in a 4 ball. They would be in the flight with teams close to the 8 hcp but may get bumped down a flight if the overall field is strong and the high handicap is verified and not trying to sandbag
There’s always a couple of tweeners that could go up or down especially in the lower flights

Flight off the average of the two handicaps. It is not an advantage for the lower golfer as he will be giving up a lot of strokes to other players in his flight. But it does not sound like the guy who has never broken 100 has a true handicap. That’s an automatic no go. Have to have a legit handicap to play in tournaments.

Evangeline fourball and Cajun fourball in Lafayette both flight off the low man. It’s advantageous to get two guys with the same handicap
ETA: the handicaps are only used to determine the flight. No one gets or gives strokes in the tournament

80% of low
20% of high
Combine for team handicap.
