Taking a long weekend guys trip in late March to the Houston area. Staying in the Woodlands and looking for recommendations of courses to play. Will play 3 days Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Not looking for cheap courses just looking to play nice and or challenging. Thanks.

Highland Pines and High Meadow Ranch are 2 of my favorites in the area.

If you stay at the woodlands resort you can play a couple of the Woodlands CC trails courses.

I’ve also got a soft spot in my heart for goat ranches. A cheap hidden gem is Grand Lakes GC. Championship layout but the conditions are less than ideal. Greens are typically okay, but if you miss the fairway it’s a all rock hard.

Highland Pines is a must, also play the tournament course at Golf Club of Houston, that’s the old PGA tour stop. Cypresswood Tradition Course

3 rounds in North Houston with no private access, High Meadow, Highland Pines, Tradition. No offense to the guy who said Grand Lakes but you'll wanna kill yourself if you waste a round with that.

I heard the High Meadow guys bought Grand Lakes.

Maybe they will infuse some cash into it.

Grand Lakes has been part of High Meadow for 15 years. Some of the plans for Grand Lakes have been laughable.

It was more of a joke than anything. Hence my affinity for goat ranches.

The north is a decent course, wouldn’t waste my time with the west.

They did finally get some new carts to replace the 1980s ones they previously had

Also. Cypresswood Traditions is well kept and a good layout, but be prepared for a 5 hour round on the weekends. That place gets crazy packed.

Grand Lakes

So much promise. Beautiful layout, decent greens. Unfortunately the greens are the only grass on the course. No clubhouse, no practice area, no slope/rating, dirt parking lot. I’ve been hearing they’re dumping money into it for a few years now, but haven’t really seen improvements.

When it first opened as Bentwood, it was a very good course and fun to play.

I remember on one round we killed 3 copperheads sunning in the fairways.

Augusta Pines has been one of my favorites since the first time I got to play. Been a few years but it was in amazing shape when I played it.
