Simply making volunteers play for free after 2pm would solve this.

This should've always been the deal. Blocking out every tee time from 7:30 till 9:30 for people not even paying to play should be illegal.

As for raising the rates, they got plenty of money… they’re just spending it on NBR projects.

Maybe so but, if you raise rates you will inevitably run off the hackers and college kid foursome playing out of two bags that slow down the pace of play.

I can't fathom sitting out there for five hours yesterday without a cloud in the sky and the temp as high as 97.

Leave your windows rolled down at Clark so the criminals don’t need to bash them in.

Santa Maria is in the city of St. George. However, BREC is parish wide and everyone in the parish pays the property tax, therefore St. George can’t change anything or take ownership of the course.

I live about 10 minutes from Santa Maria and can drive to Beaver Creek or the island to play and get home in the same time as going to Santa Maria because the pace of play is terrible.

The theory works…. But the reality says otherwise. They’ve been increasing rates over the past 4 years and yet here are.

If they keep the old geezers off in the AM then I’d bet money pace would improve.

Real problem is BREC is run by people that aren’t there based on merit or accomplishments

BREC should sell Webb and pump that money into Santa Maria then go up to $90 green fees. Webb property has to be a gold mine.

Can’t go up $5 here and there. Go up $25 and see the play drop.

Beaver greens are ROUGH! Very short grass and sandy. No issues with verticut just all of the edges are burnt.

Any course pros reading this, understand that slow pace is killing your revenue. 5.5 hours to play 18 isn’t acceptable

Which is why I wish they put a little more effort into LSU

I remember a day not too many years ago when I had these choices of 18-hole BR area public golf courses on any random day, all within 30 minutes of my home:

Webb
Howell Park (RIP)
Briarwood (RIP)
Dumas (RIP)
LSU (basically RIP)
Santa Maria (too goddammed crowded and slow)

Now it's Webb or Beaver Creek (which requires close to 2 hours of driving round-trip).

I guess I need to learn about the Island and Copper Mill.

If you’re two hours round trip to BC, CM and the Island will be the same distance.

Your other option is Clark (old Dumas), Carter, and Pelican Point.

Played Santa Maria yesterday. Was about a 4 hour round, but we lucked out and had nobody in front of our foursome. Behind us was a foursome that kept good pace, then a sixsome of jackasses that were group celebrating OB tee shots, and a foursome that was probably having an absolutely miserable time in the heat waiting for those goons.

Course was in decent shape. Greens had a lot less poa sprouting on them than when I last played in....early May? Late April? Only hole 11 was particularly bad because was covered in sand.

Apparently Mike Johnson is working out of Webb now? Maybe that's a good sign for things to come there... Would love to have him back or someone up to the task out at LSU.

I wish Webb's little hitting bays had some sort of launch monitor situation. Aside from a warmup, I can't gauge anything from hitting into a net.

Also while I'm ranting about BREC, I got a nice BREC gift card for father's day that I CAN'T use with online Pre-Pay which saves a ton of money over time. They need to sort that out pronto.

Some marshal needs to be fired if this happened over the course of 18 holes.

And you can bet your happy arse that if I had gotten stuck behind those clowns, I would have been on the phone with the clubhouse until someone got off their arse and came out and broken that up.

I watched 5 kids play out of 2 carts and 2 bags. One hanging on the back of the cart while going to the next hole. Was surprised to see this at City Park since they have the only marshal that I saw enforced the rules. Even the cart caddies act like they on the place sometimes.

Have heard great things about the Island but I have yet to play out there. Copper Mill has a fun layout but you can go ahead and pencil in a 5.5 hour round.

This weekend I played at Webb behind a foursome playing with 1 set of clubs and a huge ice chest on each cart. Empty beers on every hole. Naturally with 1 set of clubs for 4 guys they were playing slow.

At that point why not just go to top golf or golf suites? I really don’t understand it.
