We call him Nephew, but he is my very good friends nephew. He plays for San Diego St. As an amateur he finished 30 after making the cut in the PGA Tour Canada at the Royal Victoria tournament this week.

The fact he made the cut was great. He play Sunday and got on a plane to Fly from Victoria Canada to San Francisco for Qualifying final stage to make the US Open. Twelve golfers from the tournament were on the flight.

This part that makes this a bad golf story. Customs area of the US was closed before 10 pm and all golfers missed the tee time today. They spent all night in the airport.

Story book weekend for Youssef Guezzale (nephew) Amateur golfer makes cut in first PGA Canada event and then can not make the 2nd Stage of Qualifying to make the US Open.

I have never been through customs from Canada. Does anyone know if its normal for customs to be shut down is San Francisco?

Terrible luck. Sorry to hear that! Cannot fathom that a major international airport doesn’t have 24/7 customs.

Kind of what I was thinking. I’ve never heard of not being able to go through customs.

Why does the US Open have qualifiers in Canada?

They have ones in Europe and Asia. That’s not what OP is saying.

His buddy’s nephew was playing in a PGA Tour Canada event in BC, flew to San Francisco after the event and got into SFO after US Customs was closed. Kinda bizarre to say the least.
