Played BC over the weekend. Group of 4 saggy tittied, small peckered senior citizens showed up 8 minutes late for their tee time and marshal opted to send them off due to log jam behind them. They wait for the green to clear on hole 1 and all proceed to hit 3 each drives that carry a whopping 150 yards, max, with the wind helping. I’ll cut to the chase, but after them taking 20 minutes to finish hole 1, I call the pro shop and we’re instructed to skip em if they don’t let us play thru. We skip them on 5 and they finally cross us on 13/14 because that’s the only part where two holes play side by side, and one of figs decides to drive up on us and start shite talking. I told the fatass to frick off or bring it and they opted for the former. Were we wrong?

TL;DR - group before us plays slow as shite and we skip them and only see them at the part of the course where 2 holes run parallel, and they try to start shite. Was I wrong in telling the two retards to frick off?

I do not understand why the frick some people go NUTS if a group goes around them.

I had a karen and her group of like 7 hens almost try to fight me because I opted to go around them while they were spending about 6 minutes each watching each other top each shot 25 yards at a time.

The whole course was ahead of them and the main bitch almost started crying she was so pissed my group had the audacity to just skip over them.

We didn't let her meltdown deter us and we were on the 4th hole before they had all tee'd off on the 2nd. Like why did she care that we skipped them? They were never going to see us again? What's the big deal?

I’ve had plenty of groups pass me and I’ve apologized for slow play, but normally let them play through after the 2-3rd hole if they’re on our arse.

And to be honest going around is different than playing through.

Playing through can be annoying as hell to the slow group and might actually make the course slower depending on certain factors. And if the course is backed up, playing through makes no sense because there is no where to go anyway (I've literally had dumbasses ask to play through while my group is waiting on people in the fairway on a short par 4).

Going around when there are 2 or 3+ open holes in front has literally zero effect on the slow group, but some people absolutely refuse and/or go nuts when you try to do it. It's weird as frick.

If you’re holding up the group behind you and you’re more than a couple shots behind the group in front of you, you’re ALWAYS in the wrong. Period.

So, no OP, you weren’t in the wrong, but an actual physical altercation should not have occurred.

Public course ‘members’ that think they own the course are the worst form of human life.

9 times out of 10 these are old men that give zero f***s about anyone not in their group.

To be clear, we were minding our own business on 14 tee box when these dumbasses drove up to the box squawking about “were we on a time constraint” and if we “wanted to deal with it”

Yep. Wasn’t even blaming you for that. They were clearly the aggressor. Just ridiculous that it came to that. Assuming you mean Beau Chene… are you a member? Were they? Any follow up from the club?

Apologies, Beaver Creek.

And I debated telling the pro shop, but figured they wouldn’t care.

I was out there as well Sunday. Was super backed up. When we got to hole 12 tee box we were third in line. Then there were these walkers behind us after we teed off. We were waiting for the green to clear for our second shots because I was playing with some big hitters. The walkers teed off, they didn't make it to us but they could have waited. Then I heard them talking as they walked across the bridge saying "I can't believe these guys haven't hit yet." Meanwhile there was people teeing off on 13 and a team waiting behind them.

Its ridiculous out there some time. When the course is that busy and you are in a foursome or even a threesome you have to play ready golf.

Was I wrong

No not at all... Slow play drives me up the wall.. especially in a cart.. I do hate having to skip a hole if i paid for the round.. But I will if need be.. If I'm at my home course I'm skipping without hesitation... an did recently.. Had a group of 5 older guys we caught up to #12 at Pelican ... stayed on their arse hoping they'd notice it was only 2 of us and let us pass.. We got to 13's green and they were all sitting at the bathroom hanging out.. So Figured hey they're gonna let us play through.... Nope! the minute we putted out and put the flag back these assholes drove to the tee box.. frick all that we passed them.. They said something I laughed and went on about my round.. Some of the frickers are miserable pricks..

I did think i was gonna have and issue yesterday... Played Copper and absolutely nutted one off the tee on #7 and dropped it on the green while the group in front was putting ... Immediately went and apologized.. Because I one of those guys that always picks on his friends waiting for greens to clear when beyond 250 yards knowing good damn well the likelyhood is slim ...

I would quit playing golf or join a private course.

The only thing I would have done differently, and maybe you did do this, is just tell them you are skipping a hole while you go past. You don't have to do this, but it would squash the second part of your story where they drove up on your later. 9 times out of 10, they'll just wave as you go past.

Also, I'll say this in every pace of play thread, but more people walking would help these issues immensely. I understand that charging for carts is a money maker for these courses. So, I understand this would never happen, but incentivizing walking during the winter months in the south would help a lot.

Not only would rounds flow better, but I think carts are akin to cars on the road. Something about going fast in a vehicle ratchets up the anger and rage. Those guys probably wouldn't pick a fight with you if they had to walk 100 yards out of their way to do it.

No one should ever be upset if someone wants to play through. It’s like getting mad at someone passing you on the interstate because you’re going too slow in the left lane.

I was playing solo with a cart and attempted to jump ahead of 2 guys walking. I was completely caught off guard at just how pissed one of the dudes was about this. First time in quite a long time that I got to the point of actually wanting to fight another human.

If I’m being held up and someone behind me complains I tell them to drive 4 holes ahead and bitch at that group, otherwise call the marshal.

No they shouldn’t have said anything, but I suspect there’s more to this story. And yes you were wrong, you gave them a pair of options guaranteed to get a bad result.

I don’t understand why slow play doesn’t have a fee. I’d offer a fast play discount that I you get refunded after a round if you maintained pace if play. I’d have AI monitor the speed of each group based on find cart data or a caryable token for walkers. Call them when AI tells you someone has fallen more than X minutes behind and tell them they are at risk of losing their fast pace discount.

I think it would be tough to charge a fee for slow play

There are a lot of people that play less than 5 rounds a year and slow play can be due to a variety of factors

1) lack of reps on course
2) nervous/anxious on course and wanting to play as well as possible bc it’s a rare treat to play
3) wanting to chill and have a good time
4) might be out of shape
5) might be playing worse than usual for whatever reason
6) windy days
7) maybe they got out of position bc they stepped in a pile of fire ants or some shite
8) money matches
9) long hitters having to frequently wait for groups in front of them
10) etc

Now, it’s one thing to play slower than the norm, it’s another thing to be oblivious to it and not let groups through or get mad when they pass by to the next hole.
