The layout and concept is cool, the upkeep/maintenance is lacking.

Last time I played out there I left after the 15th hole, we were already 5 hours into the round.

Timber Creek is really good. Overpriced but it is a good course. If people are mentioning Clear Creek I'll suggest Bay Forrest (my home course). They take great care of it and is a really fair price. The lay out isn't anything special but its a good course. I can get some pictures for you if you want. I usually play there 2 or 3 times a week.

Where are you all staying?

but is it really that cool of a concept? ... many of the holes just don't simulate their original that much, other than a dogleg left with a bunker on the right ... add in the lack of maintenance you mentioned, which can be severe at times, and you have a course that is no better than the cheapest muni ...

I used to pay there until I found Evergreen Point. Bay Forrest does do a better job staying in good shape but evergreen is a much better layout, though it's probably been 4 years since I've played there.

Evergreen closed a couple of years ago. It was a fun track. Heard a couple of rumors they might be trying to open it back up. Currently a disc golf park lol.

Damn, that sucks. It really was a fun course and like 20 bucks for twilight.

Not trying to dog on Bay Forrest, there just isn't much to it. I definitely prefer clear creek to it. But I totally understand playing Bay Forrest if it's nearby and you play a couple times a week.

Is Clear Creek in good shape? I haven't played there in over a year, but it was never a preferred course for me, just cheap and easy to get to.

I prefer battleground to clear creek. CC just got to be too inconsistent in their upkeep

I’d try to get on memorial if I was OP. Far from the best course in town but it’s a great old school layout

It's been years, but I really liked that course. I just found it to be a fun, but challenging, course. Played it constantly when I lived in League City.

Has anyone on here been to Sharpstown's Course? (The municipal one) I actually heard recently it's pretty decent now. And is it worth a drive from North Houston to play some Pearland and Deer Park courses?

Can't really comment on Pearland courses however driving for golf in Houston is relative since it is so big.
It kinda depends on what part of North Houston you are in. Battleground is a pretty good course. For a change of scenery, yes it is worth it. Not sure if I would drive to it from outside of H-town though. I would prefer going to Mont Belvieu over either area though and playing EaglePointe.

I wouldn't play Sharpstown unless you were right next door to it. Their greens tend to always be in great shape but that's about it. It's pretty much a flat, Open course, and a lot of holes look exactly the same. No creativity and hard thin grassed fairways. Off the fairways are just dirt. Outside of Memorial, Houston's muni courses aren't very good. It's also only a par 70 course.

I've paired up with some weirdos out there too. One guy kept trying to sell me cheap golf balls the whole time and wouldn't let it go then pestered me to give him a ride home after the round. Another time some guy that seemed jacked up on meth or crack was a complete lunatic and I just quit after nine holes to get away from him.

I love the Chinatown country club. The course Is meh but you eat really well after It’s a good place to slap the ball around while drinking beer.

I’d suggest mala or night market for post round meal. There are a million other options as well.

I played the other weekend and it was in pretty good shape. The front had a few bad greens but the back was in great shape.

So many shots on the course with well placed Hazards

Wildcat is my favorite public course, it’s a good layout and usually in great condition. Tour18 is garbage, it was in terrible condition when I played it last. Augusta pines is a decent course, but the conditions seem to vary. A lot of the good clubs in Houston are clubcorp courses now, But I think they allow non-members on. If so try and play the Panther and Oaks courses at golf trail of the woodlands in that order.

Im sorry but Wildcat is a terrible layout.

Every tee box I feel like I could get pegged by a shot that is not that far left or right or vice versa.

Every tee box you hear other groups hooting and hollering.

36 holes on land fit for 24.

Cypresswood Traditions in the Spring around the time when they hosted the Shell Open qualifier was/is the best public in the city.
