I can’t seem to rid myself of a 7 popping up.

Sometimes it’s a bad shot, sometimes bad luck, sometimes just trying to make a perfect shot and not quite executing it.

I was in 3 bunkers today.
For 2 of the bunker shots, I could not get both feet into bunker. I practice bunker shots some, but honestly, I’ve never practiced standing outside the bunker while ball was inside bunker.

It was great to get to play and I did manage to make a birdie, but the 7s need too away.

I feel ya. My big numbers come from being stupid.

I'm working on not being unnecessarily aggressive. Just trying to play a clean round mentally is very hard for me.

For me, it’s always this. Most of the time, I’m playing in a birdie game, so frick pars or saving bogie. It’s all glory or bust. When I play my own ball in a non birdie game, I shoot way better. Safe golf is smart golf which leads to better scores, but roasting a 150 yard cut 5i out from under a tree and through 2 more is awesome.

Stop taking chances.
If you get in trouble, use current shot to set up an easier next shot.
Have a miss zone. If you miss your shot, make sure you miss in an okay place... not water or woods, etc.
Improve short game.

I feel ya.

Today I decided to turn one over and cut the corner on a par 4.
I nailed the ball, but it was maybe 3 feet left of where it would have been perfect.
Hit tree, into ditch.

If I line up 10 yards right, easy par, but no I’ve got to cut the corner and have a half wedge in!

LOL.

Tried to play from ditch- stupid. Wheels off!,,,

The punch hook is the only consistent ball flight in my game. The rest is a crapshoot

I guess it's due to practicing it so much, but I've developed a nice little straight 5-iron punch shot that I can get to go as much as 140ish yards with a good roll.

And if I'm not totally under a tree and can get some loft, I use a 7-iron and that one goes straight most of the time too, max about 100 yards.

Basically, yes.

I not only try to play out of ditch; I tried to hit the ball facing backwards standing a foot in front of ball.

No stance, in a hazard.

Low IQ decision.

They happen man...Kevin Na took an 11 on a hole in a PGA tournament. They will always be there. The more you play, the less you see them, but they will ALWAYS pop up at a time when you least expect it. trying to get rid of them will make them hurt more when they do come around. The more you just enjoy being out there and less about score, the more you will find they don't show up.

I am by no means a great golfer but my in my last two rounds one was 3 off my personal best and then I matched my pb yesterday. The key to limiting my blow ups was getting into the fairway off the tee box and knowing my limitations. I think most in here agree that the hero shot is not always the best shot. I know that I can roll my 5 iron 210-220 but if I'm 230 out, it might be best to hit it up a little shorter and put it on with my favorite club, the 56.

Made an eagle today.

Holed out on a par 4.

Made three 7s on the back.
One was a bad swing.

One was just a bad idea.

One was just almost hit perfect shot 3 times. Tight margin.

I’m a 15 hcap.

Started out a late 9 yesterday
Bogey
Par
Par
Birdie
Par

Next tee shot out of nowhere straight right into water on par 5. The shot was so far right I was still 450 yards from hole. Lol. That triple began the slide. Had to make 10 footer for bogey on 9 to salvage 44. I consider anything under bogey golf a win.

I will comment that if a "perfect shot" ends up barely not working out, it is a dumb decision.

Basically you are admitting you couldn't hit it any better, and you still didn't get a good result. At that point you are hitting a shot you shouldn't have

I try not to let my lack of talent interfere with my luck, however, sometimes my low IQ can lead to some very marginal decisions.
