Both semi-private yes? Which one is best? I like Calvert but never played Frenchman's.

Calvert Crossing by a long shot. Frenchmen’s Bend is just flat and offers very little challenge. At Calvert, you better be ready for some elevation changes and more challenging greens.

Frenchman’s is in decent shape
Calvert has some course issues and losing membership like crazy.

Now - when both courses are at their prime, Calvert.

Sad but true. I’m a big fan of the layout there but it’s been pretty crappy this year.

What's driving the membership out?

Calvert crossings is hands down the best bang for your buck in Ouachita Parish. The course is maintained at a decent level. There is a lot of elevation and in most cases they will wave up to 75% of your initiation fees. For a junior membership (under age 30) it's $125.00 a month after taxes. One of the only downsides to Calvert is if you aren't having a good day off the tee box.... you are shite out of luck.

And I'm not knocking on Frenchman's bend in anyway.... played there last weekend and the course is looking a lot better than it has in the past. But....... the course is a soup bowl and the slightest rain turns it into CPO, the course is almost exclusively dog leg left and the fees are not only more than Calvert but I haven't heard of them waving the fees or doing any significant drives.

Both are a little bit of a drive from Monroe so the distance is basically equal if you live in town.

For a junior membership it sounds good, but what is it when you turn 31?

30-36 single membership (not family) is $190 a month. There also aren't any quarterly amount you have to spend. We did get tagged with a $100 fee in January to renovate the club house and put new sand in the green side bunkers.

I agree with the above posts, the course was looking terrible at the beginning of the year. I dont know if it was because of the 4/5 months of rain or what, but I will say it looks 100% better since July.

Frenchman's was the same way so I can only figure that everyone was fighting the rain.

Full membership is only about $225/month.

Calvert membership is hurt by the fact that it is the closest course to Squire Creek so the big money guys go to Squire. On the side, the established old money in Monroe goes to Bayou DeSiard CC. The membership group that seems to be lacking is the mid-30s to mid-40s age range. Just my opinion, but I believe that is the toughest target group to get right now as those families seem to be spending all their disposable income and spare time on the activities of young children (travel ball, dance, cheer, etc...). That majority of the golfers that fall into that age group just don’t have the time or money to join a club. They just play when and where they can.

Calvert is reasonably priced and, with the exception of Squire Creek, it is arguably the best course NELA. The whole “Country Club” scene at BDCC is better, but if you look just at the course, Calvert is a better layout. There is some work being done as it is a 20 year old course, but the fact that it is managed by Troon Golf is a positive thing. Three years ago it was heading in the wrong direction but they have some positive things going on out there and course conditions have gradually improved. It is not completely there yet, but is much improved from a few years ago under the Troon management.

Ya becoming part of Troon has been a good move on Calvert's part. Another good perk about calvert is you can go play Mystic Creek for right at $65.... one of the prettiest courses i've stepped foot on.

Course conditions and upkeep.

Calvert could be an amazing course but as a previous poster stated, Squire absorbed the membership that had money.

Desiard has picked up a number of Calvert guys the last few months. Squire has picked up a couple as well with a promotional that was run.

Squire Creek is the worst thing that could have happened to Calvert.

Back in the day the Hooters Tour would play at Calvert. The Monday qualifying was very entertaining.

It's $80 for non-troon players on friday-sunday. I'm not sure if maybe they were doing a promotion or not when you played.

Or they may have went up on price. I know they are in the process of building the new clubhouse.

Your handicap would be 8-10 strokes lower if you joined Frenchmans.

This is true.

I had no idea this many TD posters lived up in the mecca. Prolly played the same tournaments without even knowing it.

That it is. They are doing a good job trying to whip the course into shape for it. Hopefully they can figure out the greens on 7, 9, 14, 18.
