Sometime the internet and social media has its positives

While walking Augusta National in April, none of us will stop and ask what hole Gooch is on.

Yeah, he’s been a top 50 golfer and is obviously way better now than he was on the PGA Tour in 2020 & 2021.
I think his biggest issue is not really trying to play outside of LIV, and then when he does play, not playing as well as he has on LIV.

Gooch played on the PGA tour through his age 30 season. He had a total of 1 win (and it came in a fall event with a very weak field). He's played in 11 majors in his career and managed 0 top 10's.
He's playing the best golf of his career right now and getting rewarded handsomely for it from LIV. It's the path he chose and it includes consequences like not qualifying for majors. He needs to own it and stop acting like a baby about it.
It's comical to act like him missing the Master's means there should be an asterisk for the winner.

Why does he only seem to perform to a winning, or hell even a top 10 standard while on liv and not elsewhere? And is that why he chooses to simply complain and not search out events and qualifiers like so many other liv players? Garcia, a major winner, wasn’t above playing and qualifying for the US open. But Gooch is? Or does he know pressure golf isn’t when he is at his best
I think his biggest issue is not really trying to play outside of LIV, and then when he does play, not playing as well as he has on LIV.

Confirm, or else!!! OWGR mean nothing now. Everyone knows they aren’t accurate. Some of you just dont care.

OWGR still means something if you're trying to qualify for majors

True. Doesn’t change the fact everyone knows they aren’t accurate. Majors cutting off their nose to spite their face. I thought y’all hated diluted fields?

Majors will adapt and give LIV players entries eventually. It'll just take bigger names than Talor Gooch missing for it to happen

Correct - people will make fun of Gooch for speaking out, but he has a right to be frustrated.
The “top 50” players should be playing in majors & due to the current state of OWGR, it seems he’s one of the few that is getting left out.
It’s something that needs to be addressed eventually, but it will take bigger names than his to fix it. Or once the PGA/PIF merger finally gets done & everything fixes itself.

While this sounds like a controversial take on the face of it, there is a big danger this will happen in the coming years. As it stands, the majority of Masters qualification can only be obtained via the PGA Tour, where a significant number of the best players in the world are literally banned. What happens when players like Bryson DeChambeau or Cameron Smith's Masters exemptions run out?
If Augusta National doesn't want to risk becoming a glorified PGA Tour signature event, with a few past champions and amateurs making up the field, they really need to look at this qualifying criteria.
It already has the weakest field of any major and it would be a shame if that slipped any further.

like Bryson DeChambeau
Zero top 20s in 7 appearances at Augusta…
Cam Smith on the other hand would be a big miss but he also has 4 more years of exemptions and would probably get other exemptions like Joaquin if he doesn’t qualify in a different manner.

Because nobody has ever challenged the status quo. Now, a bunch of butt hurt idiots are just fine with destroying the validity of the OWGR because some players left their preferred tour.

If you cared and truly want to be a part of it, why challenge it?

I don’t feel bad for any LIV players . They sold out. Those are the consequences.
It’ll sort itself out over time. But don’t bitch because you knew what you were doing.

I thought you were most upset about diluted fields. Is that not the case anymore?

Agreed. But I thought the entire issue for fans was diluted fields. Is that not the case?

I am angry. Angry at LIV for screwing over the players and golf
And that’s exactly who LIV players should be mad at. But let’s be clear, the majors aren’t diluted. But the signature events are

Yikes. That’s hard to reconcile given the players that would otherwise be in the majors. Look, I don’t feel bad for the LIV guys that aren’t in majors. However, for you to claim there is no dilution is silly. Do you care about dilution or not?

I hate the current state of professional golf, but I can simultaneously have 0 sympathy for Talor Gooch when it was abundantly clear what the consequences were for taking a dump truck of cash.
He got his money. He lives with the decision.
