Driver recs (get fitted, i know)

Im pushing 40 with a toddler at home. Went from playing 2-4 times a week to every other week at best. I am dropping my club membership for a year or so as we just don't use it. They have a 1 year policy where you can rejoin after 12 months without paying any extra fees. I basically play 4 man scrambles for work related stuff once a month and play a round or two on my own, with the occasional 4ball every summer.
SO, Ive had a Ping 410 LST with a Fujikura Motore speeder x flex shaft in the bag the last several years but it's time to downgrade. My hdcp has gone from mid 8s to 14.4 as of last week. I now hit 3-4 balls OB or unplayable a round, sometimes more.
I LOVE this driver but dont have time to be "good" with it. My swing speed is 116-117, I am a long knocker, and dont see myself slowing that down much.
As you folks know, that is no bueno if you aren't relatively accurate
which these days I am NOT.
I know, slow everything down. Do I go for higher loft, less heavy shaft, more flex? Do I need an "easier" clubhead?
Im so out of touch with golf stuff these days.
TLDR: suck at golf now, need easier driver.

You definitely need an extra stiff shaft flex with that swing speed. I mean, how "bad" are you with your current driver?

Nothing wrong with that head. Ping always seems to score high in accuracy and forgiveness.
How does the shaft feel to you? Not saying it's too stiff( I can't know that) but when I try to play something too stiff, my accuracy goes down as I try to make the shaft bend instead of just letting it release. With interchangeable shafts now, you can really experiment. I have a new one coming in soon.

Fitting is the answer.
Head is modern so get someone to work with you through the shaft options.
I wish I had that speed!
Try to find 2 hours to really get dialed in for the proper shaft.
One idea might be to use a shorter shaft. Modern drivers are 45 to 46 inches long. With your speed, trading some shaft length for accuracy may be a viable option.
Bottom line, you need some data.

With that swing speed, you can maybe go with a heavier shaft if you're looking for more control and better ball striking. I'm gonna assume your current one is somewhere in the 60g range. You don't necessarily have to go down a flex, just find one with a different bend profile that you can feel more. Good news is there's no shortage of shaft options out there. You could also cut the butt of the shaft down like a half inch or so to improve control. Might take like 5-10 yards off, but you'll add control.
Edit: From the looks of it though, the shaft you have is already pretty soft in the butt section. If you go up in weight, a shaft with a similar profile will feel more flexible. You might like the Diamana RF which is $75 on golf works right now. That's a $350 shaft normally. You could also just increase the head weight on your current driver, keep the same shaft and cut it down maybe a half inch.

Last round I played, I was +7 on the 4 par 5s, all reachable from the white tees. I landed pin high on a p4, but 30 yards right of the green playing 335. So yes, I am that guy that can launch it. Problem is, I have no business attempting that right now when playing my own ball. Its just really hard for me to dial it back.
I was even on P3s. All p3 tee shots are 160 or less at my course, so its 9 iron or wedge, which is hard to miss THAT bad.
I was +10 on par 4s.
Obviously I 3 jack too much as i've lost some touch on the green.. but i DO NOT double bogey unless im out of bounds. When I miss, I pull it left off of the planet. Im talking 270 carry and 60+ yards offline. I will occasionally spin off the earth right when trying to cut it too hard. I LOVE hitting a cut, but cannot count on any "shot" with driver right now. Two rounds ago i used 5w off the tee most of the day. It worked but GAY.

I love new stuff, buying right away. I assume 70 gram? My current Motore is 70-ish.

I used to love fitting, tweaking clubs, ebaying, all that. Just currently don't want to do any of that because when I have time for golf, I just want to play. Lose 20 bucks a round to my friends and have a good time lol.
Unfortunately I just miss playing golf and being competitive at this point. Life comes at you fast. I just want to plug and play these days. a 100 dollar shaft is worth the gamble so I ordered the Diamana. I have a friend who will happily swap me if I hate it.

Are you in Louisiana? Just curious. If so. Go see Paxton at Pelican Point. He can fit you and also check out your swing. With your swing speed, probably just need to get tuned up!
My swing speed avg is a bit less than yours. With top speed being around 117-120 when swinging at it. My miss was a hook/left side for a right handed. Paxton got me in the Project X Hulk Green shaft and it’s been great. I mistakenly purchased the counterbalanced version but it’s practically eliminated the left side. I’ll still hit some left but the shaft is as stiff as they come and your speeds would match up well.

quote:you’ll definitely want to stick with the 70g. You could also mess around with the head weight in your g410. They have different weights on eBay if you want to mess around with something heavier. However, adding more weight to the back of the head like that will put more spin on the ball and launch it a little higher.

The HZRDUS “hulk” shaft mentioned above is a good shaft for your speed but it might feel like you’re swinging a solid pole.

Not quite that stiff for me. But certainly stiffer than most shafts you’ve ever swung before.

When I got the Ping the guy threw in an 80 gram x flex that felt like swinging a giant redwood. Used it a few rounds and left it in my cart. Never saw it again.

Watch some videos of guys hitting multiple flexes in the same head. It's often shocking how little difference it makes. Feel is often the biggest factor on accuracy.

I play about the same amount as you and have similar aspirations. I got fit for exactly that reason - I don't want to worry about my clubs. The right shaft/driver combo will remove that element from your head so you can just play.
It's not driver, but i shaved 4-5 strokes per round with new irons fit to me.

Ive had my Mizuno MP-H4 irons for 10 years now. I hit them good enough still and honestly love the feel. I replaced the x100 shafts years ago with Ctaper 130 and wont ever go back.

I enjoy playing around with new stuff, but I think a good hour long trackman session with a fitter would be worth your while. If you live near a club champion, everyone i know who has been swears by their fittings - these are people with access to fitting at their club. Next driver I buy will probably be from them.
