Ditched the 60 degree for my gap wedge yesterday

I went back to my gap wedge yesterday for 80% of my chip shots except for when I was in the sand (which unfortunately happened a couple times). My score dropped by 4 compared to my normal. The 60 degree worked very well in the sand only, but using my gap wedge put me within a couple feet of the hole almost every time. I normally chunk the shite out of it when using the 60 degree from 20-30 yards out.

That 60 degree can stay in my bag most of the time where it obviously belongs

I stopped using my 60 from 60-70 yards and now opt for the 54 degrees. Never hit it solid usually leaving it short of the target/hole or blading the mfer into the next group in front of us. But love the 60 from the trap and from the apron around the green.

were you chipping normally with a 60 degree?

Very hard club to chip with consistently,

Open the face a little and use the bounce like god intended. If your technique is sound it's a pretty easy club to hit consistently.

I use my lob wedge for everything inside of 100 yards except for bunkers.

Got rid of my lob wedge all together, I have a 48, 52 and 56, primarily chip with the 52 and pretty much use 56 for short sided bunker shots and those that need to get up in the air quickly. It has helped my scores tremendously.

My 60 is a liability outside of hitting it out of fluffy sand. I go PW, 50,54 & 60.

From 20-30 yards depending on what the green looks like im hitting my 54 or bumping my 9i

I’m about to do this as well. I still love it for 90 yds and in, but for chipping, it’s just not reliable enough.

What grinds and bounce do you have on those 2 wedges?

62° for the vast majority of my chipping.

56° out of bunkers, sometimes 62° out of a bunker if it’s an immediate up and down.

I use the least lofted club I can get away with for chipping. I love my 60 only when I can get a full swing with it.

I have done the EXACT same....Do not need a lob wedge if you know how to open up a 56

After giving my 60 degree a month time out, I put it back into the bag and it betrayed me again last week.

It now resides in the lake on number 18 on Great wood GC.

May it rest in peace.

This was me until I developed the yips from barely having time to play/practice anymore.

The 60 used to be the best club in my bag, I could do anything with it inside 100 yards. It was the only club I used to chip and pitch with (except out of bunkers).

Now it either chunks 5 feet or blades 50 yards over the green. There is no in between

Yeah, playing and practicing regularly is the key to being really good with the lob wedge

I am a surgeon with the 60 from 40-60 but like my 56 green-side and out of most bunkers unless short sided. My course has alot of gree-side bunkers and there are times I miss wide of the bunker. With elevated greens, my only hope to get it high enough to land on the green, clear the bunker and not roll off is to open the face on a 60. It's not a club I need until I do.
