I was fortunate to play some weekend golf at Cypress Bend before their re-opening.
Here to report that the course is amazing and that the changes are really nice.
They've done a great job with the bunkers and the greens. There are still a couple of greens that need to completely fill in but overall the course is in great shape considering the drought.
This course will test you.
Everyone should plan to make a trip, it's well worth the drive.
Welcome back Cypress Bend!!!

Awesome to hear. It's been years since I've played but it has a fantastic layout. Nice elevation changes and not that it matters much but every time I played there were deer all over the course. Definitely will plan a trip.

September 29. I think you can book tee times now.

Was there last weekend at friends camp and had lunch at the course. Yes from what I could see looked really nice!

Was told by someone this morning that he had an opportunity to play it the other day. His comments echoed yours exactly. A few greens and spots needed to be filled in a little bit but overall the condition was surprisingly good for a new course and the layout was really good. He felt it was much better than the previous layout.
I’m really interested to see what I can be. That location should be able to sustain success if they keep conditioning up.

I played today.
First of all, I was not a fan of the course before the renovation. With that said, the new layout is really well designed.
Par 5s are all driver off the tee, unless you are really long. If so, #12 may be a 3wood. Number 9 is a beast, over 600 yards from tips, 596 from Blues & 570 from Whites.
Tee boxes are in really good shape.
Most of the fairways are in good shape but still need some time.
Only green that is in bad shape is par 3 13th. They have plugged & sanded it. It actually rolled a lot better than it looked. Greens are slow, VERY slow. But they are trying to get the grass to grow in before they get the speed up. Every green has large undulations but there are some slight, almost hidden breaks.
One tip on the greens, look at both sides of every putt. As the guy I was playing with said, “don’t be lazy”.
Now for the negatives.
Driving range hitting area is some weird mixture of weeds & unknown grass. Nothing like the course.
Only 1 water cooler on the course. Hopefully they will get that corrected soon.
Rough is penal, the ball can disappear just off the fairway in some places & it can be just a hack out, if you find it.
A lot of weeds in places & some dead spots maybe because of the heat & drought.
They did a poor job of clearing the area around the course (dead/fallen trees, in woods etc.) so while the course looks great, the surroundings are not great. Just disappointing that they couldn’t clean up that kind of stuff.
Did a lot of work on cart paths, but left some bad spots that will probably just get worse over time.
Did not fix the drainage issue on #5. That hole will be cart path only when we get some rain.
Number 16 now has 2 separate fairways. The old one that is downhill with a dogleg right over the lake & the new one is to the right & is longer, but safer. The negative is that there is no cartpath from the tee to the green area for the new fairway, so it will be in terrible condition soon.
So in conclusion, the design is a huge upgrade. My fear is the course conditions will not be good for long. Course will look better when the lake level rises. I’m not sure the SRA got their money’s worth ($6 million). Overall grade went from an F to a C+.

Played Cypress Bend last weekend. Many Tiger is spot on with his description. I’ll add emphasis on the rough comment, sprinklers/irrigation seems added. Also noticed a lot of new equipment to maintain the course.

Hopefully they removed the windmills and the clown's mouth.

If you played there before the renovations, I think it is worth a trip. The complete makeover of holes 8, 9 & 10 was a really nice change. Again, the course is in pretty good shape right now. I’m not sold on Sterling Golf (who is managing the course) and whether they will keep the course conditions up to par.
So if you’re going to play Cypress Bend, play it soon.

Going to try to make a cast and blast(the golf ball) soon.
