Could the Zürich ever be a designated event?

I know 2023 is kind of a transitional year in the PGA, but from my understanding in the future, they are going to be rotating “designated events” in which the top players have to play in that event.
I think the chances are low, because a lot of players don’t like the course and it’s more of a novelty tournament with the teams. It would be awesome if it ever happened.
ETA: I also wonder what the future of this event is. With LIV and the new schedule. I wonder if we see the field start to look like it did before the team format which was pretty bleak.

Seems like it would be a good chance to do it specifically for potential Ryder/President cup pairings.
People bag on it, but last year they had the following show up to play:
Cam Smith
Viktor Hovland
Collin Morikawa
Max Homa
Will Zalatoris
Scottie Scheffler
Patrick Cantlay
Xander Schauffele
Sam Burns
Billy Horschel
Joaquin Niemann
Sung Jae Im
Outside of Rory, Rahm and JT, that's a pretty top heavy field even if it wasn't very deep.

It will be at some point. Like the poster above me said, it makes a lot of sense for Ryder and presidents cup pairings.
Plus the zurich pays alot of money to be a sponsor for the PGA. Their money talks.

Zurich contract expires in 2026.
If Zurich does not renew, then TPC will expire

Unlikely it ever becomes a designated event. More likely the field strength goes way down , and it becomes a second tier as it was before. The LIV guys seemed to like it more than those that stayed.

It is believed that TPC Avondale would have a hard time staying in business if it loses the prestige and money that comes from hosting a PGA event. And that the PGA might have a hard time getting a sponsor to take over for Zurich.
Zurich will be the sponsor through 2026.

I’m really disappointed that the Korn Ferry tour pulled the Lafayette tournament. Players there are much more engaging than PGA Tour players, and was a more relaxed environment

I believe we get at least 1 Korn Ferry Event back in the next three years. I also believe if it’s not Zurich, another sponsor would step in.

Zurich has to foot the bill to increase it. I'd imagine that money would go to Torrey Pines well before New Orleans.
Also, I'd think the team aspect would be gone.

Any event can if the sponsor wants to pony up the additional money and is open to a potential shift in the scheduling

Very high chance of happening next year.
