Just talked to Pelican and it's $159/mo and the cart plan is waived for the first year ($140/mo). It's a 2 year contract.

I've set up a tour to go talk to them and feel everything out but it seems like the best deal at the moment.

I played on a Friday last year. Walked off 18 and the bar was packed with people. They had a guy playing music. Grabbed a beer and sat on the patio and they had guys coming in and out playing an extra 9 or grabbing a beer after 18. Since you're single, seems like a great place to go and hang.

I'm leaving golf out, just talking atmosphere.

Money no object, UClub is where is join if I was trying to get better. Great facilities and a ton of really good golfers. Course is very hard so your game has to get better.

Have you played all 4 courses you're considering?

Only course I haven't played is Links at Pelican. I'm going for a tour Friday but the weather doesn't look like I'll be able to get a round there anytime soon.

A couple of comments of reply:

1) Normally, it's not hard to get a tee time. At the present moment it's a challenge because people are playing because there's nothing else to do, the weather has been nice, and they're only doing tee times in 15 minute intervals due to covid. That being said, I've played every day that I've wished to do so, just maybe not at the time I was wanting to.

2) With the exception of maybe 2-3 times per year, charity tournaments are only on Mondays when the course is closed anyway

3) There are about 3 weekends on average per year when there will be a collegiate event and the course is closed to members. During those times UC reciprocates with CCLA and BRCC and they'll make you a tee time there.

I've been a member at UC for years. I don't have any complaints.

Things must really have changed if this is true. There used to be mid week charity scrambles during the week all the time. I’d argue one Friday scramble is one too many. Raise the dues to what you need rather than close the course just to raise money.

I’d agree UC easily has the best practice facilities.

Considering CCL doesn’t do tee times I would imagine that’s difficult

During the spring & fall, PP probably has a charity scramble at least once a week.

I love when courses don't have tee times.

You can definitely get tee times. I will say I called on a Friday morning for a tee time the next Friday, the earliest they had was 10:15. I had a friend call mid-day the same day and earliest he got was 2:45. This is a week in advance. I've called on Tuesday for Friday tee time and was told 4pm.

BRCC doesn't either. Sounds like it would make it easier to squeeze somebody in.

I went through this a few months ago (deciding club to join). Ended up with UClub, I've enjoyed it thus far but my biggest knock, as others have stated, would be getting a tee time. I've been a bit spoiled with MCC and walking up and playing without an issue. UClub is not that way and every time I show up, 90% during the week, its always crowded. I've also noticed, even singles playing, if you are behind them they won't let you play through. Its pretty ridiculous, if it wasn't for the practice facility I'd look elsewhere - that facility, IMO, is that good.

I knew I had seen that thread on here. Guess I was searching the wrong terms.

I talked to a friend who knows the pro at Pelican really well and basically told me to join because he's such a good guy. I have a meeting with him tomorrow but looks like I'll end up out at Pelican.

Pelican is probably the best draining course in the area. I've played there enough to know that it will be just fine when many others in the area are soaked and/or soggy.

OP, I'd wait for the Island deal to go thru. Allegedly, they're down to 4 interested parties. Island meets your requirements and I want to say it was $150. I use to live in mid-city and it was a whopping 20 minutes at most, barring no trains. no

No guarantee thats going to go down like we think and you're always at the mercy of the bridge. you can always take Nicholson all the way to Pelican and avoid I10

I played a couple times last year and it just seemed kinda dead out there. Of course they were going out of business so that may have had something to do with it
