I have my issues chipping, either hitting it fat or skipping a skull shot across the green.
What seems to help me is to keep my lead arm elbow locked, grip light and head down

This is such a huge part of chipping IMO, you really have to commit. I agree with a lot of the physical advice here but from a mental standpoint you have to commit 100% to your swing and not worry about the outcome, it goes where it goes.

yep focus less on the outcome and more on making good clean contact.

Go buy Dave Pelz Short Game Bible. It’s been a savior for me and he has a great drill in it for tips. Text me if you want more info.

Prayers sent.

I suffer from the same affliction. The ONLY thing that's ever helped is alcohol. Sounds like you've tried that before, and it didn't help.

I use a 8 iron for bump and run, especially when the lie is so tight, just use a putting stroke.

Also, I have had great luck chipping with my hybrid as well, hard to miss it with that club.

I use both of those shots. If you need to go up a hill and onto a green and you're sitting in a tight lie, it's the way to go. You're either gonna chili dip or blade it if you miss with the damn wedge. But it's really hard to miss bad with the iron or hybrid chip.
