Any plans to upgrade ?

Would suggest e-mailing the course pro to ask this question.

Plans, yes. Will it ever be executed, likely not

I was actually thinking about starting this thread.
It would be a significant undertaking but if they put some money into it and lit at least the front 9 on North Course along with the driving range it would be a massive hit imo.
Make the north course clubhouse a sports bar esque spot with one or two sim bays, serve bar food and drinks.
Demo the existing driving range structure and install a permanent mat that goes the width of the range. That's what's used monday through thursday. Friday through sunday you can hit off grass in front of the permanent mat. Get new range balls (I swear to god I get at least one or two balls that had ceased production by 2000 in every large bucket).
It would be a sizeable investment but I think you could pack that place most nights and night golf is a great way to grow the game.
I used to live in a place that had this set up and it was super popular. On a given weekend night there would probably be 200+ people there at all times cycling in and out and probably at least 50 of those 200 were just there to socialize and have a good time. It was a great atmosphere. Even weeknights had a solid crowd.

If they get the LIV event, yes

$14 for a large bucket and they can’t even manage to wash the balls on a regular basis. None of that will actually happen.

Well of course. This is nola we are talking about. Maintaining the status quo is perhaps better than you can realistically hope for. Forget about actually progressing and making things nicer over time.

They will be putting in trackmans in the near future. But no upgrades to the physical plant.

I’m grateful that they have a super twilight option for the north course at least. It’s nice to play a decent track for <$9. Though it’s always stacked in the evening and the marshals are non-existent. Considering the level of play the course gets during regular hours even in this heat, the greens should be in better condition and I shouldn’t be losing my ball in the middle of the fairway due to pot holes or shaggy grass. On the other hand I can play for <$9 on a weekday after 5pm so I guess I can’t complain too much. It’s better than going to the range to hit balls with mud caked on to them. It’s really a shame the state the range is in. Considering, also, it’s almost always packed.

It was in REALLY good shape in like March. Best I'd ever seen it.
Played a few times since and it's gotten worse and worse each time.
It's like they did their turf maintenance for the season and now they are just letting it go. Shame. Don't understand it.

The night golf idea for North course is a great idea It is crazy how much play it gets for being in the condition it is in I like to play Pontchatrain but haven’t been in a while .

This is what I heard as well.
If they get the LIV/Super Bowl event, expect upgrades to City Park/Bayou Oaks' facilities
Could be BS though, who knows...
I also heard LIV was looking at a course on the Westbank as well.

Your ideas sound amazing but the range stays packed as it is with 14 dollar buckets and very little maintenance performed.
They have no reason to change at this point. Would love to see it though.

I’m certainly not gonna say you’re wrong. It is very well used in it’s current, mostly shitty state.
But with the investment I’m talking about they could get at minimum another 2-3 hours of range ball sales, but more than that (from a revenue angle) they could make it a place to be for family and friends to hang out, drink, watch a game while some in the group hit balls/play 9.
Also, you could accommodate a much larger crowd (build it and they will come) by scrapping the existing structure and make it more free form. You could fit two or maybe even three people in the space those range bays take up for one person.
The place that I referenced was like that. There were a significant number of people there spending money and having a good time all while not hitting a single ball. And without a rigid structure, there were a LOT more people able to hit at the same time even though I’d say the widths of that place and bayou oaks are comparable.
i just looked on google maps and bayou oaks has 67 bays. I’m not really gonna count the “grass” areas since it’s pretty much just sand/dirt and rocks on an incline.
The place I’m referencing is actually narrower by about 150 feet but I can guarantee you on any given weekend night and even most weeknights you have 100-120 people hitting simultaneously.
And behind probably 30 of those people hitting are another 40-50 people sitting in lawn chairs they brought drinking some beers they got at the onsite bar.
I know I’m just dreaming here but man it would be a big hit imo. It’s a proven concept and makes tons of sense in a place that is hot as frick for most of the day for a large part of the year.
