The problem is golfers do not realize how much the above will cost.

More sand, a front end loader, a back hoe, and a few days it all it would take to convert bunkers into grass collection areas.

Trees are even easier. Chainsaws and front end loader.

maybe a few weeks...A few days will get you maybe 3 bunkers & a tree. Digging and filling a hole is not what you are doing. There are contours and drainage and other factors that go into what you are talking about.

It is amazing what golfers think goes into this stuff. Just a few baws and a chainsaw. No worries about liability or anything else. Just get after it.

To cut many trees on a golf course you need chainsaw, lift, tractor, skid steer.

Bunkers? Just fill them in and all good. Just a little sand. Haha. Just a little sand? It is going for a fortune a truckload and it'll take many truckloads to fill in the bunkers these clowns designed on many courses in LA.

You’re options here are do the work or continue to let these course go to shite. Obviously, I’m over simplifying the work that needs to be done. But you’re attitude is why courses are going to shite.

Look at me I know better than the average golfer, the work is really hard and expensive, so leave it to the professionals to do nothing.

You cannot do the work without money or labor. It is a fantasy. Your plan is also fantasy and a former golf GM told you not me.

No one is saying that the work is cheap or easy. What we are saying is that a course needs a direction and a plan. Up front it is going to cost more money to fill those bunkers and cut some trees down. Over a 10 year window it is going to cost more to upkeep the bunkers and shaded greens. They brought in truck loads of sand and halfway filled up bunkers on all 18 holes. Instead they could have filled up a bunch of unnecessary bunkers and began working to truly improve the course. If not just shut it down. They're still charging 75/ round for that shite.

So did the parish simply hold onto the money? Did they lie about how much they’d budget for the course?

No. The money just wasn’t there. I’d do a yearly maintenance budget, it would be submitted to the Parish, they would always approve it, so long as it wasn’t some silly number.

I gave up on trying to figure out what bills were being paid and where things stood other than contract labor, equipment lease, repairs and fertilizer.

If I was approved for a 600k budget, I’d guess that maybe through the year only about 300k was actually being paid to vendors.

The parish wasn’t getting any real revenue from the course, probably some good tax incentives for green space, I’d imagine.

To go even further, the parish was really only committed to parish salaries and wages, but in some kind of fricked in deal, the golf course actually had to pay the parish back those wages. Which I don’t think has ever occurred.

appreciate the reply and candor. I play somewhat often and it amazes me at the lack of attention this place gets. Like I said, it's a good layout. Some bunkers can be eliminated without any impact to the course aesthetics. Smaller pot bunkers would seem to be easier to maintain?

It’s a really nice course. Just a maintenance monster. The original bunker renovation plan from Hurricane Barry was to eliminate about 50k sq ft of bunkers. Completely remove some, shrink others. It turned into a shitshow rather quickly.

#2 hole needs a complete redo or trees need to be eliminated to allow airflow and sun

Yes. Thats been said by everyone. However, there’s a certain individual who has larger hard on for trees than anyone I’ve met. He is fully aware of the need, but would never pull the trigger.

What's the story on #6? Ran out of land for the fairway?

Nope that was an intentional design. One of which ‘will never change’. Direct quote from tree hard on guy.

Crazy to allow a hole to continue to be borderline unplayable because of green rot and mush all around. Dont need to cut all of them but need to open it up. #8 tee is also garbage because of it.
#6 would help to have a split fairway. You can still keep some of the cypress trees that cut the hole. Give the player an option.
