Sandbaggers are the worst. Nothing like playing in a tournament and a nine handicapper shoots 73. My club has gone to a system where they post your scores for you and the guys in your group get a notice of everyone in their groups posted score. Of course we have a few guys that shoot 75-80 on a consistent basis, but when they play away from the club, they post 90's and 95's. I mean you are cheating your friends when you do this.

I played in college for the team that this entire board is based around.
I’m 64 and played one round last year. My reasoning for playing less is pretty simple.
When I was young (12-14) and caddied, I swore to myself I would never play golf if my game was as bad as some of the men I caddied for. Well it is now, so I don’t play.
It’s just not fun to stink at something you used to be pretty good at. What I used to do, in my sleep, now has become a nightmare.

What if you played a scramble with your grandkids? Could be a way to have fun together.
Bad golf is better than work.

I played after college and stayed decent for a while. Scrambles are a blast and I do enjoy.
Without golf I don’t go to LSU and don’t meet my wife (no pics). The reward of playing a sport has been great.
Somehow all that disappears when I am lying two,10 feet off a Par 5, and walk off with a 7. Just not fun.
All good.

I’m glad to see you finding a way to just enjoy being outside and swinging a club.
Scrambles/Shambles are in no way equivalent to SEC tournament golf, but at this point just enjoy the hit and giggles with the rest of us.
I play 2 “golf” rounds per year- the club championship. The rest are rounds with friends and scramble/shambles/net team/and so forth. In no way is my game confused with the top of amateur golf, but I usually hit a shot that makes me delusional enough to come back and try again.

I like to think some of my more errant shots have been the source of great amusement to the almighty.
Either he decided to take the day off Tuesday, or he decided to stack all the good ones I have coming for the next year or two all get used up on one day.

Sounds like you just need new hobby. People stop enjoying the game, you wouldn't be the first person. Plenty of fun stuff to do out there not named golf.

but did play at a CC in a Wed and Fri set tee-time group for ten years. The average game was 12-16 players with a max of 20. We had our own in group handicap, full USGA rules, and it was a rather complic

I remember back in ‘86, I played in a Gulf States Section tournament @Belle Terre, first day shot 66, second day 84. For those that don’t believe golf is 50% “between the ears”…

I turned in a 31 on the front nine in a junior event in Denton TX in 1999. I was informed I had a 5 shot lead.
I turned in a 49 on the back.

On the back, you must have used one of my key thoughts, “never let a bad shot interfere with making a bad decision.”

Shot 68-80 in a Georgia section event in the same day. I feel your pain.

They underestimated my ability to Fisk things up.

I remember those days, I remember shooting 65 the first day of a Nike event and throwing up a 74 the next day and missing the cut. Makes the decision pretty easy to give it up after that.

It was a combination of being poor out of college and joining the workforce and moving, but I didn’t play for about 15 years other than a scramble here and there 3-4x/year.
After I had settled down, I joined a club and play 1-2x/week
