How does the PGA Championship award points when a guy like Michael Block, a club professional, is in the Top 10?
Chase koepka is guaranteed 14 tournaments regardless of what he does. Congrats on a horrible analogy. If michael block, or any other player was guaranteed 14 tournaments when they were never even good enough to qualify for the Korn ferry tour, maybe you would have had a point…
That’s Livs issue that makes it impossible for setting up ranking points in the traditional sense . They are giving slot of guaranteed events for golfers that simply don’t truly belong, so if you just slot those tournament ranking points guys like chase koepka and other are going to be hugely inflated

Brooks is a golfing contradiction.
He is usually a non factor in the regular tour events.
But in Majors, he really shows up and performs.

There was an article this week in the WSJ on this topic. The two brothers who founded Datagolf.com actually do have a formula that ranks all golfers, including LIV.
Ironically, the OWGR collaborated with the brothers to partially use their formula for rewarding strokes gained more in the points distribution.
The article goes on to show that their formula isn’t dependent on field size.
Interesting article, and shows the rankings and points can be done if they actually wanted to.

If you look at datagolf though brooks is still ranked in the 30s. That won’t be good enough for the people complaining about the rankings

I like watching LIV golf and …

These guys knew what they were getting into when they decided to leave, they knew this was a possibility, if not then they should have done a little more research or asked more questions before taking the money. I don't fault them for taking the money but I don't feel sorry for them either. Their tour does not deserve world ranking points, it's a closed field exhibition tournament

Super fair to compare the guys playing the PGA this week to the ones playing LIV Tulsa or the Byron Nelson last week…
Cmon

Even using LIV, Bryson wouldn’t be in the top 30 in the world.
Looks like he’s starting to play better, but he’d been awful for the last year.

They gotta figure something out. The OWGR isn’t legitimate as it currently stands.

I get it. I just don’t know what to do. Like Pride said, how do you acct for guys like Chase Koepka and the fact that there’s no qualification system?
A bunch of 54 hole no cut events that are being won by the likes of Chucky 3 sticks and Danny Lee.

So no points for any tour but pga, right?

Is Brooks going to jump into the top 10-15 now?

I’m not sure how that’s what you got from my post
I’m saying if we solely go off score shot, it’s not fair to use the PGA Championship against both the most recent PGA Tour and LIV events.

I agree with you there. But there has to be a metric to include LIV, right? Surely some mathematicians can figure out an equitable way to do it.

I really don’t know the answer until they have a true meritocracy way for making their tour

I don’t know what it is. But there is a mathematical formula out there.

The truth is, liv just needs to frick off and the pga needs to find a way to beat their arse in court and make the contracts null and void. The changes on your were made, go back home to your high school sweetheart.
