Driver SS - low 90s warmed up.

My guess is the Pro will outplay the Pro Plus for you; and would for many others as well.

I hit the ball high as well. I will see if I get the same results tomorrow when I test the Pro Plus.

Could be.

Tomorrow we are testing the Pro Plus and the TM Tour Response.

I will test the Pro next week.

I tried the Vice Pro Plus this weekend and just didn’t like them. I’ve tried Vice in the past and figured I’d give them another shot but just not for me.

Ball flight was incredibly high. I already hit it high and these were just ballooning up on me. Maybe players with lower flight would enjoy them. Green side they felt “sticky” and didn’t release much. Not necessarily negative it was just not expected. Not sure if that was the condition of the greens or balls but when I switched away from Vice I didn’t have that same experience.

I played the Maxfli tour for about a month and enjoyed them. I’d put maxfli well above Vice personally.

No comparison for me either.

All Vice's balloon on me.

Maxfli to me is a much superior ball.

Today’s item

Srixon Q-star Tour

Ball jumps off the club and is very workable without being too spinny. Was just hammering it today.

Felt great off the irons. Distance was consistently good, ball wants to go straight.

53 wedge was land and be within 6” of the ball mark. Got 2 closest to the pins today and wasn’t far outside the other 2.

Didn’t feel quite as good as the Ink off the putter, but rolled fine. Just wasn’t making them today.

Controllable chipping the ball, would check if you wanted it to.

Definitely a keeper. Slightly more expensive than the q-Star, which I’ll probably do next.

Ranking

What ball is best to get down to a 4 Hcp? I know it has nothing to do with the mechanics of my swing.

Today 8/14 the group tried the Vice Pro Plus and the TM Tour Response.

First, it's too damn hot..

Pro Plus -

I have been using the ProV1x and this ball is certainly different off my driver. Much flatter trajectory than the X and not the hang time.

I hit my irons high and today was no different. As far as iron carry, it was identical to the X. Honestly it was a little weaker spin off my wedges and it was fine off the putter.

Bottom line - no one in the group was overly impressed and nobody was dissatisfied. For me, the ball felt like a Srixon XV than a ProV1x.

Could I play this ball, answer is yes. Will I buy it again? Probably not.

TM Tour Response 8/14 on the back nine.

In my group 3 of us play Titkeist and 1 plays Callaway.

The Tour Response is a ball we were all interested in trying . We used the Stripe model.

Off the tee, we all agreed it was good on distance and straightness .

In fact Steve who plays Callaway Chrome Soft hit his best drive of the year with it.

Off the irons the distance was fine, but 2 of us thought it was more than a little clickly. Same feeling off my putter.

On short wedges/chips, it had more roll out than most of us was use to, but adjustments can always be made if we played the ball long term.

Bottom line - we would have to say that the Tour Response mostly delivered and it is a good alternative for anyone that is tired of paying premium prices.

I believe that the TR may have converted Steve.

Next Thursday we will be trying the QStar Tour and the Maxfli Tour.

For Tours response:

I’ll endorse this, but my main miss chipping and pitching used to be short so I sort of liked the roll.

Coming out of sand, I have backed it up so the spin probably varies by shot/speed etc.

I like the alignment striped ones. The best is the stars and stripe version.
The others can take a minute to find on the ground.

I’ve also played the yellows which have great visibility.

I liked the stripe too.

For our testing, we are staying away from the super premium priced balls because we have tried those.

The Tour Response is the next level pricing and it showed well.

I think Tour Response, Maxfli tour, and Q star tour will end up being good for the money.

Are we doing any non-urethane options?
Most of those are under $25 per dozen.

I liked supersoft from Callaway, Wilson duo, and the titleist trufeel in that category.
I need to try the TM ink.

I like both the Ink and the Callaway super soft, haven’t tried the other 2.

There’s so many different balls out there this thread was a good idea, frankly I haven’t paid that much attention to the ball performance until this called it to my attention.

Cost let’s face it is getting to be a significant part of playing when it comes to balls. Even if you finish a round with 1, it’s probably not looking too hot and ends up in the extras pocket of the bag, or the shag bag. Knowing which ones do have some value at the lower (sub 25/doz) or mid range (25-40) helps us all.

It’s rare I finish a round on one ball. Hit one in the cabbage in RTJ, and it’s just drop one because you’re unlikely to find it. It’s not that hard to hit it in there either. If I’m playing scramble like today it’s a full sleeve from trying to do dumb things.

Going hit on a GC3 today. Bringing a couple of balls with me, one will be the AVX. Not sure of the other. I’ll post the data on them to compare. I’ll hit a wedge, 7i and driver on each.

I'm a Srixon Z Star guy, but I do enjoy the Tour Response.

Have some Vice Pro plus that to me are like Pro V1x. Long off tee, but I have distance control issues off my wedges. Also I suck right now

Just got back from my simulator ball test. Tested the Titleist AVX and the Wilson Triad. Conclusions: Triad felt so pure with wedges and pitch shots. I was thoroughly impressed in the short game. However, it totally lost me with driver and long irons. Just too much spin. AVX was really good all around and has potential to be my gamer.

Here is the full data. (Averages) ETA - Seeing how this ended up posted makes me realize I shouldve formatted this in Excel and posted a screenshot, but maybe next time

50 yard pitch shots (Triad | AVX)

Ball Speed 52.2 | 50.72
Carry 48.7 | 46.8
Backspin 5035 | 4240

Full Wedge (Triad | AVX)

Ball Speed 97 | 98.5
Carry 122.1 | 123.8
Total 126.5 | 128
Back Spin 8830 | 8700
Side Spin -330 | -170

7 Iron (Triad | AVX)

Ball Speed 128.8 | 128.5
Carry 183.2 | 189.9
Total 193.6 | 202
Back 5849 | 4831
Side 675 | -250

Driver (Triad | AVX)

Ball Speed 160.7 | 163.5
Carry 264.6 | 275.8
Total 275.7 | 295.2
Back 2 895 | 2516
Side 858 | 353

Overall, if you're looking for more spin and good feel, the Triad is a nice value at $35/dozen. It didn't fit my long game because of the spin, but I loved how it felt off of the wedges. I'll try to give it an on course test this weekend. AVX won this battle for me!

I played so bad today that I will not disclose what ball I played.

Somehow I made 2 birdies so it wasn’t all bad. Just putrid mostly with crappy swings mixed in. Got to mediocre at times, but more awful than good.

Maybe next time.

Good review.

Another note.

Triad Compression is 85

AVX is 77
