Games that had the greatest influence in the modern Era are Pokémon and Halo 2. One for what it did for hand held gaming, the other designed the matchmaking system that every online console game since has basically been modeled after.

The last of us doesn't have the very best gameplay but it had the biggest effect on me.

Had the biggest effect on me, couldn't stop thinking about the pulse of those stories. tLoU almost got me and its right behind those 3 in terms of emotionally grabbing me.

Hard to take out personal bias and genre preference.
So yeah I agree, they will almost always be all over the place.
