No. The average game developer isn't thinking about Half-Life 2. The design of that game hasn't influenced jackshit. They're thinking of Mario and Zelda. Even the head of Rockstar has admitted that any game developer that says that Mario and Zelda aren't the primary influences of their game design is simply lying.

Oh they are thinking about Half-Life 2. I know, huge influence on game design and you tell a story.
