That said, there have been reports XBox is committing more resources to their AAA titles to get more marquée titles out quicker, so that could be indicative of a desire to have more big name titles hit with the Helix.

Yea they should be doing that...but thinking back to the OG XBox and why that was a special console....we had original exclusive 1st and 3rd party IPs that kicked arse. That continued for a while into the 360 era. What is the next Halo, Crimson Skies, Chronicles of Riddick EFBB, Fable, GunValkrie etc...
Experimental stuff like Keeper is great and I like those types of games..and the new Gears looks cool but I hope we see some new big IP exclusives again

We'll see what happens, but the new CEO's moves so far are telling me they're done trying to make AA "indie" games like this and instead are going to focus on big titles as first party exclusives.

Makes sense to me, and I hope that's what they're doing. They don't need to develop "indie" type titles internally. The ID@XBox program was working great without them having to bring it in-house. Focus on the blockbusters and just open your platform to indie devs for easy indie title releases that will occasionally result in a home run.

ETA: Keeper is a pretty decent game for sure.

The PS5 graphics are great, I honestly don't need more from a machine. Honestly, if you are casual gamer there is a back log of games you can play YEARS without a new release game.

I still have fun playing old games on the switch online store, so maybe I am not the best to ask.

PS5 captures 75% - 80% of AAA single-player launch sales vs Xbox.

Maybe this stat will help.

If you want one now i wouldn't wait. As others have said, the PS6 is about 2 years away. i think that may get pushed too. You may not know, but memory and RAM prices because of AI data centers consuming it all have gone up MASSIVELY. These are core components of systems. Sony may very well wait until this dies down before releasing a new system. Maybe not.

Even if they do release a new system in 2 years, because of aforementioned issues, the new systems are assuredly going to be expensive. im guessing the $1k+ territory. Not a lot of people are going to afford that. These companies have always supported the previous gens after new gen launch for years, and the PS5 will be supported strongly after a PS6 launch. If you bought a top line ps5 today, i would confidently say you would get another 5 years of use out of it, probably more. the PS% has gone up in price twice recently. If component prices continue to rise, they may do so again (Xbox has also done this).

Others mentioned building/buying a gaming PC. that's a great option. It gives you a ton of versatility. If you dont feel comfortable building, there are a lot of companies now that will build for you for a fairly reasonable price. My advice there is go big if you can. The more you put in initially the more your going to get life out of that PC. You are jumping in at a bad time with component costs, but those are just going to worsen over next few years. This would by my bigger recommendation if you can swing it. The only downside to PC right now, is that Sony has come out recently and said a lot of their big first part titles will remain PS5 only where previously they came to PC after some delay.

Then there is Xbox. I dont hate Xbox. But it would be my least recommendation. They just went through a big leadership overhaul, and are shuttering/selling a bunch of game companies. Poster Fatkid here will champion them all day every day, but the truth is they have been getting their shite pushed in by Sony for years now. If you go the PC route, you will have access to any Xbox game "exclusive". If your hard set on a console, i guess see what "exclusives" xbox has and if you care about them. I honestly do not know what an Xbox looks like in 2-3 years.

Both companies will likely wait. It's not even about pricing, it's about availability. There's not enough ram to launch 2 consoles in 18 months. There's not enough ram to sell consoles this holiday season.
