yes, the new console will come with the Kinect, but still not everyone will use the kinect. They pushed a few kinect games out when it initially released, but in the last 2 years there really hasn't been big Kinect titles.

I think their exclusive titles will try to incorporate Kinect elements. They're pushing forward and trying new things. MS seems confident in their Kinect improvements. I'm not saying this a good thing. Outside of the voice commands, I don't think I'm interested in Kinect.

I'd hope they do. They'd be alienating ~20 million 360 owners who have never connected their console to the internet.

It is obvious that they are targeting a more premium consumer. There's no problem with that, but I think they want to have as much market penetration as possible.

15 new ISPs in the first year for Xbox One. I just hope they aren't Kinect crap.

They are 15 exclusives, 8 of them being new IPs.

We know of:
Forza
Dead Rising 3

How many of them will be Kinect or indie titles, we don't know (but there be at least 3-4 from what we know about MS's internal developers).

But how much money do they make off of these people? It might be close to nothing. These companies make consoles to make money. Shocking, I know.

i'm the same way.

the Kinect in no way is a selling point for me, but is a nice feature that i will use sparingly. Drunk friends, seem to really enjoy using the Kinect on a Friday/Saturday night. my neighbors below my apartment, not so much of a fan. but i do find the voice commands useful once you learn them and adjust to using them over the controller.

They still buy games don't they? You know, the purpose of the 360.

Yea I have a way older cousin who has 2 360s in his house and they can't connect to Live because they have satellite net out in the sticks. They very rarely buy games and when they do it's usually used games that are years old by that point.

I doubt MS cares about those people.

How does MS determine 20 million people have never been on Live?

Is it by the amount of units sold vs Live users? If so then that 20 million is skewed for a lot of reasons.

For one you can't connect a modded home brew Xbox to live or they will brick it.

There are also plenty of people that have bought more than one Xbox but use the same gamertag resulting in more units sold but no net gain in Live users. I am one of these people.

A gaming only console isn't as profitable as it once was unless you develop the majority of your own games like Nintendo does.

Is there any reason to buy new titles for the PS3 and 360?
Like Madden 25 or NCAA 14?

It's also skewed against, because there are 5 Live accounts tied to a single console purchase. I have a lot of younger siblings and we each had a profile. I bought them a new machine when I moved out of the house, but the numbers can be skewed against your argument as well.

Not sure how this affects anything though... Unless you're saying that they would still have net access and would connect if not for the mod. Which would be true I suppose, but I can't imagine the number people who holding out with a hard-modded console be too high.

There was a study that showed who was connecting their console to the net and what percentage. You could take those numbers and extrapolate or go number of subscriptions vs. sales.

How so? All console publishers make a license fee off every game sold, regardless of publisher. I'm kinda surprised you think that moving software isn't the most important part of profiting on gaming. (and Sony had the largest 1st party development, not Nintendo)

Well, NCAA 14 will likely not be on the new consoles. Madden 25 will likely be very gimped in the first year with the next entry to be more full fledged.

If you connect the console just once then you can't mod the console and also you can't connect once it is modded or Xbox will brick it.

People use those strictly to play single player pirated games.

The community for this is huge. Go look at torrents of xbox games just to see the sheer numbers of people that have modded consoles. Also go to se7ensins.com and other sites dedicated to Xbox modding.

Manufacturers make whole motherboards and chips you can order to do this. They wouldn't do that if there was a demand.

As profitable! As...as...as

More competition of platforms that can play the exact same game has made it less profitable to focus just on turning a profit off of licensing fees.

Nintendo does well because they don't rely on licensing fees of cross platform games. They have their niche and their most famous games are in house developed.

Xbox and Sony share a lot of the same library and that library gets saturated even more when you add in PC gaming.

They do but how many games does the average person in the sticks who doesn't have internet buy? I'd be willing to bet it's much lower than the person fully utilizing all of the features of the console. The person who is using all of the features of the Xbox One has much more profit potential through many more avenues besides the cut MS gets on a 3rd party title.

If the formula for success was just focusing on developing non multiplayer exclusives, don't you think we'd see a lot more of them? Even successful single player franchises look to tack on multiplayer features on the sequel. They're not doing that to be nice.

Sorry I guess. I thought we were just discussing it.

I'll stick the Vita and FF threads then.
