last year they had a satellite put in for cable and internet. i setup the wireless network for them.
yes what a great example because everyone can afford that
i live in the burbs of DFW and a lot of our more rural customers are on dsl. if you go a bit further out to where my parents live, you MUST have dsl if you dont live within the town limits. depending on where you are you may not even get that, its dial up or satellite.

PS4 is for the low and middle class gamer.
Thanks Obama.

but the discussion we are having is about how Xbox will use cloud processing power to make up for a gap in processing power on the unit itself. in that case, what the PS4 does is irrelevant because it already has the lead in processing power.
OK so Sony will be more powerful and use the cloud. It's relevant to point out since you are saying everyone with spotty internet should rush out and get a PS4.
My point is those people will be left behind regardless eventually.

this isnt a discussion about latency/lag. if you use dsl and play a game effected by lag you are playing at your own risk, regardless of hardware. we all know that.
It is though. I don't have lag on DSL and I also outlined how game content not already on my machine is delivered to me without lag or issues. It's pretty much the same thing the cloud will do but on a larger scale vs a few PC mods.

my parents are going to retire out there in a few years. it has a antebellum home on the land as well. they've been fixing it up for well over a decade.
so to them it was a necessary investment.
another story.
my grandmaw is a stubborn ol lady. she's got arthritis, bad hips, and everything else. she has to have constant care, because she won't sit still. cooking, cleaning, gardening, etc. she lives in the sticks outside of Hattiesburg, MS. we had DSL ran out there and wireless cameras installed that connect to a DVR. We can use smart phones and pc's to login into the webfront end and monitor her. i also setup that network.
2 cases where in backwards arse Mississippi. We went from no internet to decent to good internet. Mississippi! deep in Mississippi.
it's 2013 folks.

My DSL upload isn't the best but my download is more than enough and my ping is never higher than 60-70 and usually averages about 30-40.
It's more than enough for cloud gaming.

you basically conceded that M$ doesnt care about and isnt going after those customers with less than stellar internet connections - whether it be because they cant afford it or geographical limitations.
which was pretty much my whole point, PS4 has wider appeal.
on a personal level, i dont see why anyone capable of building a HTPC would buy a Xbox anyways.

To be fair Sony was very vague about their network and how it will function. That's why we don't know exactly how they will use their cloud gaming service or if there will be fees, etc.
I wouldn't make statements like this until everything is known.

Both have their advantages. I see what you are saying but as far as a dedicated central entertainment hub it seems the Xbox does this a little better than a generic HTPC.

we just did that exact set up for an exotic animal clinic out in the sticks. had the damnedest problem at first - every time the recorder was activated the internet speed for the whole complex took a dump. ended up having to change the frequency channel of the wireless cameras to fix it.
now i get to log in and look at baby camels and kangaroos

It's the $20,000 car that is setting next to the $50,000 car. You really wish you had the $50,000 but your current situation only allows you to settle for the $20,000. So you tell yourself lies as to why the $20,000 is better when it is not.

except in this case the 20k car actually has a better engine than the 50k car
50k car is a hybrid.

It's really crazy to think that by the end of this upcoming console life cycle the hardware could not really matter at all.
fricking Technology and shite!
Onlive for example is a small shitty set top box that plays current gen games.

based on what? wait until that APU the xbox is using is out on the market and lets see what we can build. MSI is using something very similar in their new Gx70 gaming laptops.

15 new ISPs in the first year for Xbox One. I just hope they aren't Kinect crap.

A few articles I've read were really skeptical about all 15 of them coming out in the first year. We'll see.

I am speaking on the apps and functionality. Not the hardware.
An HTPC still takes a mouse, keyboard, and non specialized software to operate. The Xbox interface is a dedicated hub that can be controlled by a controller or voice command.
But as far as hardware goes it doesn't take much to stream movies and content in 1080P. My shitty laptop I keep in my truck can do it.
Now if you are one of the few to have spent thousands on a 4K TV that might be a different story. Too bad limited content is offered for 4K though.

i would hope M$ knows it's market with Kinect titles by now.
yes, the new console will come with the Kinect, but still not everyone will use the kinect. They pushed a few kinect games out when it initially released, but in the last 2 years there really hasn't been big Kinect titles.

you mean like this?
got nothing on the voice command though. not that that is really a bad thing, i cant get M$ automated system to understand me anyhow if i call to activate a product. i guess they dont speak coonasshillbilleese.

That still looks more cumbersome than using a controller to browse between windows on a specialized interface.
